When it comes to the most sacred and powerful place to pray for luck right now, it undoubtedly is "Naga Cave" located in Phu Langka National Park, Bueng Kan province. This site features a wondrous rock formation shaped like a giant coiled serpent. Many believe this to be the petrified body of "Grandfather Ue Lue, the Naga Lord" who was cursed and is ready to grant blessings to those who have faith. Thairath Online takes you back to the forbidden love legend that caused the city's destruction and transformation into Bueng Khong Long, and seeks answers to how this giant serpent scale rock formed. Note that Naga Cave will be closed to tourists from 1-31 May 2026 and will reopen from 1-30 June 2026. Devotees should prepare accordingly.
The history of Naga Cave is closely tied to the "Grandfather Ue Lue Naga Lord" legend and the city of Ratthapnakorn (present-day Bueng Khong Long). Local beliefs hold that
the origin of the curse was a tragic love between "Prince Fa Rung" (a human) and "Nakrintranee" (the Naga princess). When it was revealed that the woman was a Naga, King Ue Lue banished her back to the underworld. Enraged, the Naga lord and his army attacked and destroyed the city, turning it into a vast swamp.
The Naga turned to stone Legend says the Nagas who fought, or King Ue Lue himself (according to some versions), were cursed and petrified in a cave on Phu Langka. The curse will lift only when a new city is established here. Many believe the founding of Bueng Kan province signaled the curse’s end, leading to the discovery of Naga Cave.
