Step beyond familiar travel routes and discover the hidden charm of "Uthai Thani," a lesser-known city full of special surprises around every corner.
Thairath Online has selected five secret, most Unseen spots for you to follow a new map that truly defines peace and grandeur.
1. Khao Pla Ra: Tracing 3,000 years of art on a high cliff
Step into a time machine at 320 meters elevation to see prehistoric paintings over 3,000 years old on the western cliff. Marvel at red and black lines stretching over 9 meters, telling 40 ancient stories—from hunting and rituals to human relationships with wild cattle. This archaeological puzzle is one of Thailand's rarest and most valuable treasures.
2. Thap Salao Wildlife Boat Tour: Thailand's Amazon in Huai Kha Khaeng
Discover a new perspective at Thap Salao Reservoir, where you can boat across a vast water expanse framed by rugged mountains. The highlight is the evening, when wild animals from Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary—such as elephants, red cattle, barking deer, deer, and peafowl—come out to graze and bathe by the stream. This peaceful moment offers intimate nature encounters unlike any zoo experience.
3. Hup Pa Tad: Stepping into a Jurassic ancient forest
Just walk through the dark cave entrance and you’ll enter a new world that feels like the dinosaur era. The ancient forest is full of toddy palm trees, giant ferns, and rare giant plants. Don't miss the chance to find the “pink dragon millipede,” a forest gem found only here in Thailand, visible from August to November. This Unseen spot feels like walking inside a fantasy film.
4. Sakae Krang Raft Houses: The last breath of the floating community
Experience the peaceful lifestyle along the Sakae Krang River, home to over 100 raft houses—the last floating community in Thailand. They preserve freshwater fishing traditions, raise Siamese tigerfish in cages, and grow floating vegetables with strong dedication. It's recommended to take a boat tour along the riverbank or stroll through the old town area to soak in a simplicity that seems frozen in time.
5. Wat Tha Sung: A dazzling beacon of faith
End with the stunning sights at Uthai Thani's famous temple, known for its "100-meter Glass Pavilion" decorated with sparkling glass mosaics, housing a replica of Phra Buddha Chinnarat and the body of Luang Por Ruesi Lingdam. Don’t miss the "Golden Castle," intricately adorned with Thai patterns and gold leaf covering glass throughout, reflecting a beautiful aura of faith like a celestial palace on earth.
After visiting these five secret spots, there's also an exciting event inviting everyone to experience elevated artistic delights at "Phenomenon of Light The Series Year 2: Reflecting New Uthai (SHIMMER)." This light art event will bring history and the breath of time to life through the theme of "Reflected Light," from prehistoric paintings and the spirit of Huai Kha Khaeng's wildlife to the shining faith at Wat Tha Sung. It takes place from 29 to 31 May 2026, 16:00 to 22:00, at the Uthai Thani Local History and Culture Museum.
