The White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine: A Southern Chinese Architectural Masterpiece by the Teochew Artisan Lineage

The White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine, honoring the 72nd birthday of His Majesty the King and the 110th anniversary of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, is a notable example of Southern Chinese architecture from the Teochew artisan lineage, with construction valued at over 1 billion baht.

The White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine, celebrating His Majesty the King's 72nd birthday, is a masterpiece by C.E.S. Co., Ltd., a construction business under the Poolpol Group, entrusted by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation as the main contractor for the project featuring Southern Chinese architecture of the Teochew artisan style.

Located on 4 rai and 17 square wah in the Sathorn-Charoen Rat area adjacent to the 80th Birthday Celebration Park, the White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine includes the shrine building and a multipurpose hall, constructed to honor His Majesty the King's 72nd birthday on 28 July 2024 and the 110th anniversary of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

Regarding its history, the construction of the White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine began with the Poh Teck Tung Foundation planning to build it on land in Sathorn, with a construction budget exceeding 1 billion baht. The shrine features a large white jade statue of Luang Pu Tai Hong Gong as the principal figure, along with bodhisattvas and other deities, all enshrined at this location.

His Majesty the King graciously bestowed the name 'White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine Celebrating the 72nd Birthday,' symbolizing the shrine as a tribute to His Majesty’s honor on his 72nd birthday, intended to bring auspiciousness and express the loyalty of the Thai-Chinese community.

Additionally, royal permission was granted to display the emblem commemorating His Majesty the King's grand 72nd birthday celebration on 28 July 2024 within the White Jade Tai Hong Gong Shrine.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on 14 June 2021, with construction completed in 2026. The official opening took place on 20 May 2026, attended by His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida, reflecting the deep royal benevolence extended to the Thai-Chinese community and underscoring that the Poh Teck Tung Foundation’s charitable works, benefiting the nation regardless of ethnicity or social class, are recognized and supported by the monarchy.

C.E.S. Co., Ltd. and the Poolpol Group were entrusted with the main construction responsibilities, encompassing structural work, architecture, engineering systems throughout the buildings, and contemporary interior finishes such as meeting rooms, reception areas, and donation rooms, as well as Back of House (BOH) facilities.

These include operational and office spaces like engine rooms and control rooms, hardscape elements such as landscaping, entrance plazas, walkways, walls, and fences, plus amenities like restrooms and a six-story parking building accommodating 127 vehicles. Every phase of the work adhered to high standards of engineering, safety, and meticulous craftsmanship befitting a nationally significant project.
