MOLLY Invades Bangkok to Celebrate 20 Years with a Thai Artists’ Interpretation of the Global Character

POP MART is preparing to open the MOLLY 20th Anniversary Exhibition – Bangkok, inviting audiences to revisit MOLLY’s 20-year journey from art to pop culture in central Bangkok, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and PMCU, providing space for Thai creative minds to reinterpret MOLLY through fresh perspectives.

POP MART is organizing the MOLLY 20th Anniversary Exhibition – Bangkok to celebrate 20 years of the iconic character “MOLLY,” created by Kenny Wong, showcasing original works, contemporary art, and reinterpretations by artists and craftsmen from diverse cultures.

The exhibition in Thailand aims not only to take fans through MOLLY’s two-decade history but also to connect the power of art and creativity with the local context, offering Thai artists and craftsmen the chance to express traditional craft wisdom through contemporary views and extend the exhibition experience into learning, community, and tourism in Bangkok.

Siriporn Phaengjanthuek, Head of Southeast Asia at POP MART, said the MOLLY 20th Anniversary Exhibition in Thailand carries deeper meaning than just bringing an international exhibition to Bangkok; the core is to meaningfully connect MOLLY’s world with Thai creativity, culture, and people.

POP MART wants to provide a platform for Thai artists and craftsmen to showcase their potential through new perspectives, linking art with education, community, and tourism. The project’s success will be measured not only by visitor numbers but also by the inspiration, opportunities, and value generated for people and the surrounding areas.

Tracing the 20-year journey from art to pop culture.

At the “MOLLY 20th Anniversary Exhibition – Bangkok,” visitors will embark on “The Little Galaxy – a journey through the universe of time,” exploring MOLLY’s 20-year development through Kenny Wong’s original sketches, paintings, figures, and key works from various periods.

From its beginnings as a distinctive young girl character, MOLLY has grown alongside the worlds of art and art toys to become an internationally recognized character, evolving from art to a part of popular culture.

The exhibition also features works by artists and craftsmen from various cultures, using techniques such as painting, Sichuan embroidery, paper-cutting, batik dyeing, silverwork, ceramics, lacquer, and other crafts to reinterpret MOLLY through personal perspectives. These works demonstrate how traditional wisdom and contemporary culture can create new dialogues and reach younger audiences through art and creativity.

Bringing Thai craftsmen to reinterpret MOLLY through traditional crafts.

One of the exhibition’s highlights is works by Thai artists and craftsmen who convey MOLLY’s stubbornness, confidence, and diverse personality through contemporary art and traditional Thai craftsmanship.

POP MART collaborates with the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Public Organization), SACIT, to apply Thai artisanal knowledge and techniques to reinterpret MOLLY in a contemporary way. A standout piece is Benjarong porcelain, connecting ceramic art with Thai dining culture and tableware.

This work was created by Tawee Phansri, winner of the SACIT Craft Station 2026 contest. Another notable piece is the inlay and lacquer art—a refined Thai craft passed down through generations—using mother-of-pearl, eggshell, gold leaf, and silver leaf to express MOLLY’s personality in a contemporary style, created by Chalermkiat Somnulyawat, winner of SACIT Craft Station 2025.

“Yoon Panpat” interprets MOLLY through his unique visual language.

The exhibition also features special works by Yoon Panpat, a Thai artist with international acclaim who has collaborated with leading global brands and projects.

Yoon Panpat reinterprets MOLLY using his distinctive imagery and imagination, producing works that reflect both the character’s identity and the artist’s unique viewpoint, showcasing the potential of Thai creativity on the international art stage.

Transforming Chulalongkorn University’s 100th Year Park into a central urban art space.

POP MART chose Chulalongkorn University’s 100th Year Park as the exhibition venue because it integrates art, nature, community, and urban life through its semi-outdoor design. Visitors can experience MOLLY’s world in an atmosphere different from conventional indoor exhibitions, surrounded by greenery in central Bangkok, making art part of the city experience and daily life.

Additionally, the park’s location connects with Banthat Thong district, known for its food, lifestyle, and youth culture. The exhibition is expected to stimulate travel and spending at local shops, restaurants, services, and communities nearby.

Tourism Authority of Thailand highlights art toys as a tourism incentive.

Collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand aims to extend art toy culture as a travel motivator, attracting MOLLY fans, art lovers, collectors, and tourists to visit the exhibition while exploring Bangkok and its creative neighborhoods.

Apichai Chatcharoenkijkit, Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said Thai tourists today value experiences with stories, uniqueness, and inspiration. International art exhibitions are a key incentive encouraging domestic travel, connecting visits with tourism in Bangkok and surrounding areas, boosting economic activities and distributing income to local communities and businesses.

Another important aspect of the project is providing Chulalongkorn University students with hands-on learning about the behind-the-scenes process of organizing international exhibitions, from space management and communications to designing visitor experiences.

Furthermore, students and pupils can register in advance to visit the exhibition in groups free of charge, expanding access to art, design, and the creative industries, and inspiring future learning and career paths.

Assistant Professor Dr. Jarasphat Pruksaratwut, Assistant Rector for Asset Management at Chulalongkorn University, said the 100th Year Park is a green, public, and learning space connecting the university with surrounding communities.

Hosting this international exhibition here not only makes art more accessible to youth and the public but also creates learning experiences beyond classrooms and offers students real-world involvement in the creative industry.

The MOLLY 20th Anniversary Exhibition – Bangkok, themed The Little Galaxy – a journey through the universe of time, will run from 24 September to 25 October 2026 at Chulalongkorn University’s 100th Year Park.

POP MART will sell exhibition packages via Trip.com starting 10 September 2026 at 10:00 AM, including special merchandise and exhibition entry under specified conditions. Details about the exhibition, activities, and further information can be found on all POP MART Thailand social media channels.
