A devotee fulfilled a vow after her son was promoted to assistant professor, bringing chicken eggs to offer to Luang Pho Somwang at Wat Klang Bang Phra in Nakhon Pathom. She did not miss lighting auspicious incense, asking for 'lucky numbers' to take home and try her luck in the upcoming lottery draw.
At 10:09 a.m. on 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, at Wat Klang Bang Phra (Luang Pho Somwang) in Bang Phra Subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom Province, devotees came to pay respects and pray to 'Luang Pho Somwang' and to the preserved body of Luang Pho Phut, a renowned former abbot who passed away over 30 years ago. His body remains incorrupt and is venerated by the public. Each day, many devotees come to pray for blessings and good fortune, bringing offerings to fulfill vows to Luang Pho Somwang continuously.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Usa Khamhom, 65, from Sampthuan Subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom, brought 300 chicken eggs, 12 dozen bottles of drinking water, one large tray of somwang (a type of pomelo), seasonal fruits, flowers, incense, and candles to offer in fulfillment of her vow to Luang Pho Somwang. The sacred Buddha statue, in the posture of subduing Mara, stands over 30 meters tall and is revered by both Thai and foreign visitors. Those who come typically pray at the outdoor blessing area and apply gold leaf to the statue’s right hand according to tradition.
Mrs. Usa arranged the offerings on trays in front of the statue’s plaza, then lit incense to pay homage and explain her purpose for fulfilling the vow. After finishing, she placed gold leaf on the large statue’s right hand, offered flowers, and rang the victory bell to announce her success.
Mrs. Usa explained that this time she came to fulfill a vow for her son, who had been hoping for a promotion to assistant professor at a prestigious university. She and her husband had prayed to Luang Pho Somwang 3-4 months earlier for this promotion, which her son had been aiming for over two years without success. Wanting her son to succeed, she vowed to Luang Pho Somwang that if he was promoted, she would come to make an offering. When the promotion announcement came and he succeeded, she brought the promised offerings to fulfill her vow, considering it a blessing for the family.
She also asked for luck from Luang Pho Somwang before leaving, lighting auspicious incense and making a vow that if she won a big prize, she would bring a pig’s head and chicken eggs—items favored by Luang Pho Somwang—to offer in thanks. Upon lighting the incense, the number 531 appeared. Before departing, she put her hands together above her head, praying that her son’s success would be as auspicious as Luang Pho Somwang’s name.
