According to reports, Phra Ratchamongkol Wachiramuni (Luang Pu Sutham Thampalo), a senior meditation monk of Wat Thep Kanya Ram in Hang Hong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon Province, peacefully passed away at 05:40 on 28 January at Wanorn Niwas Hospital, Wanorn Niwas District, Sakon Nakhon Province, at the age of 100 years and 7 months, with 78 years in monkhood. His disciples agreed to bring his remains for the ceremony at Wat Thep Kanya Ram.
At 13:00, the Wanorn Niwas Hospital ambulance transported Luang Pu's remains from the hospital to Wat Thep Kanya Ram, where Mrs. Ranida Luengthitisakul, Governor of Sakon Nakhon, the monks, and disciples awaited to receive them.
The remains were then enshrined in the ordination hall, and a ceremony to apologize to the remains was performed according to religious procedures. The remains were placed in a cooling coffin. A water-pouring ceremony for the remains is scheduled for tomorrow (29 January 2026) at 16:00 at the ordination hall of Wat Thep Kanya Ram. The passing of Phra Ratchamongkol Wachiramuni (Luang Pu Sutham Thampalo) marks a significant loss for the Thai forest meditation monk community, leaving behind only his virtuous deeds, exemplary conduct, and teachings that continue to guide his disciples and Buddhist followers.
