Hoping to enhance good fortune, many spiritual devotees flocked to the 'Moon Overlapping Moon' holy water bathing ceremony, also receiving 'lucky numbers' from the holy water basin to take home for the 16 Feb 2026 lottery.
On 2 Feb 2026, a reporter noted that it coincided with the 15th lunar day, the phenomenon known as “Moon Overlapping Moon,” when a Monday coincides with a full moon night. This attracted many devotees and people, as ancient beliefs hold it as a special auspicious time when the heavens are open to prayers for luck, wealth, charm, and fortune.
At 7:00 p.m. at Wat Mai Krongthong, Village No. 3, Si Maha Phot Subdistrict, Si Maha Phot District, Prachinburi Province, Phra Ajarn Samusophonwit, assistant abbot of Wat Mai Krongthong, together with six monks, performed Buddhist chanting, merit rituals to dispel bad luck and change destiny, and conducted a holy water bathing ceremony outdoors under the full moon.
Nearly 300 people from the local area and other provinces, including some from Chanthaburi, attended the ceremony. Participants offered flower trays, incense, candles, birthday candles, and five oranges according to belief before worshipping outdoors under the moonlight.
During the ceremony, Phra Ajarn Samusophonwit lit a chanting candle near the holy water basin, and drops of candle wax fell, clearly forming the number 508, which drew great interest and excitement among attendees. Afterwards, people received holy water bathing and passed through a ceremonial archway, a tradition from northern beliefs, to enhance good fortune.
Mrs. Kung, 43, from Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province, said she is a devotee who traveled to attend the ceremony since Chanthaburi lacks the 'Moon Overlapping Moon' holy water bathing ritual. Her family joined last year; although they did not win directly, their business noticeably improved. She intended to attend again this year and planned to return home immediately after the ceremony.
