At 19:23 on 23 March 2026, the Huk 31 Nakhon Ratchasima rescue unit at Thai Samakkhi received a report from locals about two snakes at house number 97, Village No. 6, Ban Huai Yai Tai, Thai Samakkhi Subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. They dispatched a team of rescue volunteers skilled in handling reptiles, equipped with special hooks and stainless steel tongs, to provide assistance on site.

Upon inspection, two large, sexually mature king cobras were found: one with brown patterned scales and the other black. They were tightly coiled together on the dirt yard in front of the house, seemingly indifferent to several onlookers. This behavior naturally occurs when male and female snakes coil together on the ground during mating, resembling an embrace.

However, it could also indicate a fight between two male snakes competing for a mate, showing similar coiling behavior. According to Thai beliefs, this rare behavior is considered a sign of good fortune and prosperity. People often throw clothes for luck, so observers kept a respectful distance without interfering, as the snakes would naturally separate and leave.

Concerned that if left too long the snakes might separate and hide, possibly breeding or nesting in the house, the homeowner requested the rescue volunteers to intervene promptly. The two giant king cobras were captured carefully to be released later into a suitable natural habitat.

After the rescue team captured the two king cobras, measurements showed each was 4 meters long with a combined weight of 12 kilograms. It was unclear whether they were both male or a male and female pair. The snakes were then placed in cloth bags and released into Thap Lan forest to continue mating or fighting naturally. Meanwhile, lottery enthusiasts took the house number to try their luck in the upcoming draw.
