Devotees performed a ritual honoring the grandfather and grandmother spirits of over 50 "Takian Thong" trees at Wat Mai Khok Marum, carefully observing the holy water bowl and drawing from a jar to obtain lucky numbers for the 16 September 2026 lottery.
On 12 September 2026 at Wat Mai Khok Marum in Muang Tia subdistrict, Wiset Chai Chan district, Ang Thong province, temple committee members and villagers joined a ritual honoring the grandfather and grandmother spirits of more than 50 Takian Thong trees within the temple grounds. Over time, locals and lottery enthusiasts have continuously come to seek blessings and luck here.
Villagers invited a Brahmin priest to conduct the ritual for the Takian mother spirits, preparing offerings according to ancient beliefs to bring good fortune and show proper respect. They also observed the holy water bowl, seeing the numbers 5489, and drew from a jar to obtain the number 004 to use for lottery betting.
Wat Mai Khok Marum is the only temple in the country that has the largest number of Takian Thong grandfather and grandmother spirits—up to 50 trees. Previously, villagers who found Takian mother trees reported them to the temple, which then had the trees ceremonially brought to the temple grounds. This is based on the belief that if a Takian tree is found on one’s property, it should be donated to the temple for worship and for locals to seek lottery luck accordingly.
