On 16 September 2026 GMT+7, reports indicated that at the Somdet Phra Naresuan Maharaj Residence at Don Chedi Temple, Don Chedi District, Suphanburi Province, the atmosphere was lively. People and devotees from various areas traveled to pay respects and pray to “Luang Pho Pit Khro,” a sacred figure respected by locals, while lifting the “Great Fortune Turtle” and shaking fortune sticks to ask for blessings, luck, and auspiciousness in their lives.
Most visitors had different intentions; some prayed to be free from misfortune and hardship after facing life obstacles, others sought blessings for career, finances, and health. Some wanted to improve their luck and resolve life difficulties positively, while some families came to pray for children.
Additionally, a faith story passed down says that those unable to visit the temple can still mentally offer prayers to Luang Pho Pit Khro. Some patients in hospitals saw images of Luang Pho Pit Khro online, prayed for recovery and a return to normal life, and after improving, came to the temple to present Kathin bundles, flowers, and bananas as offerings to fulfill their vows.
At the same time, those who had luck from gambling returned to offer flowers in thanks and prayed again to Luang Pho Pit Khro before shaking fortune sticks for new lucky numbers. This time, some received numbers 15 and 424, which they took to try their luck according to personal beliefs.
Mr. Udom Playtho, 68, said that Luang Pho Pit Khro was created by Luang Pho Kep, the first abbot of Don Chedi Temple, and is known for blessings related to fortune. Most who pray ask for luck, promotions, career advancements, and children. Those who succeeded in their wishes have continuously returned to fulfill vows by offering Kathin bundles, bananas, and boiled eggs. He himself had prayed for luck and was granted.
The unique ritual for praying to Luang Pho Pit Khro involves, after paying respects and making wishes, devotees lifting the “Great Fortune Turtle” and pressing its head against the center of their forehead while silently repeating their prayer. The turtle symbolizes longevity, stability, and fortune, and also serves as a reminder to live life steadily and mindfully without rushing, ensuring stable and complete success.
The “Luang Pho Pit Khro” statue at Don Chedi Temple was created in 1958 CE, measuring 32 inches wide at the lap and about 1 meter 32 centimeters tall. The statue depicts Buddha sitting cross-legged with both hands covering his ears, mouth tightly closed, and a pointed head.
Luang Pho Pit Khro was created by Phra Wiboonmethajarn, or Luang Pho Kep, the temple's first abbot, intended as a Buddha image for worship by Buddhists and the general public, especially those experiencing suffering, problems, or obstacles in life. Many come to pray for auspiciousness and encouragement to overcome difficulties.
The philosophy behind Luang Pho Pit Khro’s creation conveys life lessons through the concepts of “covering ears, eyes, and mouth,” meaning to control the mind by not listening to harmful things, not seeing what causes suffering, and restraining speech to avoid problems, thus achieving peace and harmonious coexistence with others.
