YouTrip Launches YouTrip Metal Card Exclusive to A-List Customers Spending Over 10 Million Baht Annually

Amid economic slowdown and reduced purchasing power, over 70-75% of travel consumers choose to vacation within the Asia-Pacific region. Even with equal or increased travel frequency, they adjust strategies by focusing on nearby destinations to control expenses.

A common behavior is daily meal budgeting, such as opting for convenience store meals from 7-Eleven or supermarkets, then allocating part of the budget for fine dining or travel experiences to learn and relax.

However, another distinct group exists—the top-tier or A-List customers—comprising about 5% of YouTrip cardholders in Thailand but accounting for a combined spending of 1 billion baht. Individually, some spend over 10 million baht annually.

This A-List group shows no signs of reducing travel distances, continuing long-haul trips to Europe and worldwide destinations, investing in premium experiences such as Michelin-starred dining and stays at luxury resorts or five-star hotels.

Their shopping behavior favors niche "Quiet Luxury" brands that are understated, like Moynat, The Row, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels, differing markedly from general mass-market consumers.

Additionally, this group's lifestyle values art, culture, museums, and music, viewing travel as a learning opportunity. They also emphasize value, appreciating good exchange rates via travel cards as a reasonable investment in experiences.

Based on this data, YouTrip conducted in-depth usage analysis revealing insights that customers do not simply travel for leisure; each trip serves diverse purposes. A notable segment uses YouTrip almost continuously, unlike most who use the card only once or twice a year.

Juthasri Kuwinichkul, co-founder of YouTrip Thailand, stated that data from the past 12 months (since July last year) shows about 40% of frequent users transact in more than four currencies, reflecting travel to over 30 countries.

Case study: Frequent globe-trotter using 20 currencies

One standout user, memorable to the team, traveled extensively starting July 2025—journeying from the UK to Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Europe, back to the UK, then to Zambia, shuttling among the UK, Europe, Australia, Bali, Qatar, the US, South Korea, Scandinavia, returning to Malaysia, and again to the UK and Europe.

This user is not a crew member but spent through the card in 20 different currencies. Other users transact in 19, 18, 17, and 16 currencies respectively, demonstrating a truly international lifestyle. Importantly, these major users account for 63% of total spending.

From Excel to designing premium experiences

Juthasri revealed that behind all data analysis was a simple tool like Excel, serving as the starting point for premium insights. These facts prevent guesswork, allowing product design based on actual user behavior and trust in YouTrip.

Recognizing existing services might not meet top users’ needs, they questioned how to improve design and travel experiences. The answer was creating “YouTrip Metal,” an exclusive invitation-only metal card, gradually offered to qualifying users. The card and app experience were developed to align with premium target users and strengthen long-term relationships.

The YouTrip Metal launch reflects fintech's shift toward hyper-personalization, designing products and benefits tailored to each customer segment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

"The invitation-only system exists because things obtained too easily are often undervalued. YouTrip wants to reward loyal users who consistently choose it as their primary card (Top of Wallet). Among 100 travel-loving friends, about 2-3 consistently use the card; these are the invited users—not open to general application or purchase,"

she explained.

Reasons customers love YouTrip and the origin of the “metal card”

The core reasons for customer trust are favorable exchange rates, no hidden fees, and a smooth app experience from start to finish. While general consumers focus on savings—YouTrip typically saves over 2%—some users save up to 9%. For example, spending hundreds of thousands of baht can save tens of thousands.

The YouTrip Metal card design switched from plastic to metal, offering pride and a distinct tactile feel. It also addresses durability, as heavy travelers using plastic cards across 20 currencies risk wear and tear.

From travel card to premium ecosystem for travelers

  • YouTrip also designed Metal Card privileges aligned with frequent international travelers’ habits, divided into three main areas:
  • Strategic Lounge Integration – Grants free access to The Coral Lounges in Thailand and Japan three times a year, enhancing travel convenience.
  • First-to-Market Infrastructure – YouTrip Metal members get first access to Metal eSIM for international roaming once every 12 months, setting a new travel feature standard.

Enhanced Cashback Structure – Offers improved cashback via YouTrip Perks, maximizing benefits on all foreign currency spending.

Additionally, The Metal Priority provides 24-hour member support worldwide, ensuring priority assistance regardless of time zone.

YouTrip Metal is now available by invitation only; qualifying members receive invites through the YouTrip app to access exclusive benefits.
