Dr. Supawan Teerarattanapong, Director of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, stated that one of TCEB’s key strategies is to enhance new dimensions of capability for the MICE industry and potential host cities, which will improve the country's overall competitiveness.
TCEB uses exhibitions and trade shows, the organization's core mission, as a platform to promote, support, and develop the creative economy, particularly the design industry, targeting Bangkok to position the city as a global hub for design exhibitions and trade shows.
Thailand and Bangkok are highly prepared and capable of hosting design exhibitions. Currently, Thailand is the leading exhibition and trade show center in the ASEAN region in terms of venue infrastructure, number of international events, foreign attendees, as well as the diversity of accommodations and event support services.
Moreover, Bangkok is consistently ranked as a top global destination, recognized for its cultural identity, creativity, youthful energy, and distinctive social dynamics. Since 2019, Bangkok has been designated a UNESCO Creative City Network member in the design category, reinforcing its city branding and potential to attract designers, organizers, and participants worldwide.
In 2025, Thailand’s exhibition and trade show industry attracted over 23.6 million attendees from both domestic and international origins, an increase of 5.64% compared to 2024, generating economic turnover of 98.54 billion baht. This reflects Thailand's readiness to host diverse international events, including in the design sector.
Internationally, global design trade shows are key drivers of economic growth, generating high trade value, investment, and employment. Given the potential of Thailand’s MICE industry and clear economic opportunities, TCEB announced a vision to promote Bangkok as a global center for international design exhibitions and a strategic platform to sustainably grow Thailand’s design industry, opening new business opportunities and connecting producers, buyers, and investors worldwide.
For the pilot project THE WORLD ENDS_: Bangkok International Design Expo, scheduled for 2026, TCEB collaborates with Thai designers to develop a core concept under the theme 'The End Is the Beginning of New Opportunities,' highlighting design’s role as a vital tool for future visioning, addressing transitional societal challenges, and creating new options for the world.
"The event will use Bangkok—a city full of creative energy, diversity, and cultural dynamics—as the main stage. It will not only showcase design works but also serve as a platform for experimenting with ideas, building businesses, advancing innovations, and connecting designers, entrepreneurs, investors, and global brands. It will also pave the way for ongoing international design exhibitions and trade shows to be held in Thailand," TCEB said.
