Thai Youth Lead Low-Carbon Rice Cultivation Project to Major Award Win in UAE

Sitthsakorn Jantrakul, a student from Ruamrudee International School (RIS), as the initiator and founder of the Future of Good Life project, along with Phuwakrit Wankhajornkit and Rattawin Yutthayong, secured the 2026 Zayed Sustainability Prize, a global sustainability award, as the sole representative from Thailand and the East Asia & Pacific region at the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

They received the award from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the United Arab Emirates, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

The low-carbon rice cultivation project reduces methane emissions from rice paddies by up to 40%, a major greenhouse gas contributing to global warming. It employs the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) water management technique combined with low-cost sensors designed for practical use by farmers, helping to conserve water, lower production costs, and enhance the sustainability of Thai rice farmers’ livelihoods.

The Future of Good Life project is also the only project from Thailand to receive an award this year among 7,761 teams worldwide, reflecting the potential of Thai youth to develop innovative environmental solutions and compete successfully on the global stage.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize is among the world's most influential sustainability awards, granted to projects that deliver tangible positive impacts in food, energy, water, health, and climate change adaptation, with a special emphasis on youth as future leaders driving global change.

Shop Dee, Deal Return The Mall Group is driving economic stimulation and consumer purchasing power in early 2026 by launching the major campaign 'Shop Dee, Deal Return 50%' throughout the year, under the concept of private sector-led economic momentum to replace the government's 'Shop Dee Mee Kuen' program that was not implemented this year. The campaign offers benefits in the form of cash coupons and e-coupons worth up to 8,800 baht to provide customers with ongoing value throughout the year.

The campaign runs from 16 January to 28 February 2026 across department stores and shopping centers under The Mall Group, including all branches of The Mall Life Store, The Mall Korat, Emporium, EmQuartier, EmSphere, and Paragon Department Store. It covers a wide range of product categories such as electrical appliances, IT equipment, gadgets, and items from Gourmet Market.

Major Award Received Daikin, a global leader in air conditioning innovation, reinforces its role as a responsible business by obtaining carbon label certification from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO, at both corporate and product levels. This reflects the company’s commitment to systematically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to long-term sustainable development.

The certification ceremony was presided over by Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, Chairman of the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization. TGO is a highly reputable government agency responsible for auditing, assessing, and certifying carbon data for organizations and products in Thailand.

In this certification, Daikin received the carbon label from TGO covering both product and organizational levels: the Carbon Footprint of Product (CFP), represented by Mr. Natthapong Hanjed, General Manager of Administration and Business at Daikin Industries (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO), represented by Mr. Atthaporn Utha, Manager of Service and Spare Parts Sales at Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd.
