Market Roundup: TPQI Partners with KMUTNB to Develop Professional Trainers Elevating Thai Workforce Standards

Ms. Julada Meejul, Director of the Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (TPQI), said TPQI, in collaboration with King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) through its Office of Technology Development for Industry, launched a project to promote workforce competency certification at workplaces for the fiscal year 2026. The opening ceremony was chaired by Assistant Professor Worawit Chaturapanich, KMUTNB's Vice President for Administration, alongside other dignitaries.

Additionally, there was a special lecture titled "Professional Qualification System: A Mechanism to Elevate the Workforce through Real Work Experience" by Assistant Professor Dr. Duangkamol Phonak, Advisor to the Director of the Office of Technology Development for Industry at KMUTNB. She emphasized advancing Thailand’s workforce development in line with occupational standards and actual industrial demands via workplace trainers.

The project is designed under the concepts of Demand–Driven, Competency–Based, and Workplace–Based approaches, using workplaces as primary venues for learning, training, and competency evaluation. It aims to enable enterprises to systematically conduct training, assess competencies, and report workforce certification results aligned with national occupational standards and the professional qualification framework. A core element of the project is developing the potential

of trainers and supervisors within enterprises to play a role beyond on-the-job instructors — becoming designers of competency-based learning that links occupational standards to real work contexts. This approach ensures the workforce acquires skills that meet market demands, effectively raising labor quality in tangible ways.

The project encompasses activities from occupational standard analysis, trainer curriculum development, training and competency assessment, to supporting enterprises in managing internal workforce certification. The goal is to engage at least 10 enterprises, develop no fewer than 80 trainers and supervisors, and promote competency certification for at least 800 workers.

The event also featured an overview of the project, a special lecture on the role of the professional qualification system in elevating workforce skills through real work, the launch of an enterprise network, and a special panel discussion titled "Workplace Trainers: A New Mechanism for Developing Thailand’s Workforce." This reflected perspectives from policymakers, educators, professional associations, and enterprises, along with real case studies from organizations implementing the system.

This project serves as a key mechanism linking national workforce development policies to practical workplace implementation, establishing a competency development system that is standardized, transparent, verifiable, and scalable nationwide. Ultimately, it aims to sustainably enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s industrial sector in the long term.
