BTS Group Launches New Strategy: Transforms VERSO into Wycombe Abbey to Build a World-Class International School with Tuition Over One Million Baht

Anyone driving past the Bangna-Trad area near the Thana City project close to Suvarnabhumi Airport will soon see the futuristic design of the VERSO International School become a thing of the past.

This more than 165-rai site is being transformed into a new world under the name Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok (WASBKK).

This is not merely a school name change, but a significant announcement by BTS Group Holdings through its business arm Rabbit Holdings that it is seriously advancing in the education sector, elevating education for Thailand’s upper-class families into a premium asset connected to a global opportunity network.

The Thai international school market is growing strongly at more than 10% annually.

Reports clearly show that over the past decade, international schools in Thailand have evolved from mere options to a large, significantly growing market.

Currently, Thailand has over 250 international schools serving around 70,000 to 80,000 students, representing a total market value exceeding 80 billion baht and growing at an average rate of more than 10% per year.

This growth is driven not only by increasing student numbers but also by changing parental behavior.

  • High-income Thai families are seeking "international standards."
  • Expats look for quality schools near their workplaces.
  • Asian families view Thailand as an educational base instead of Hong Kong or Singapore.

All share the common goal of sending their children to world-class universities. Among educational curricula, including American and IB programs, the British Curriculum combined with boarding school education stands out as the preferred "all-in-one package" for premium top families, encompassing academics, personal development, and networks.

This is why BTS decided to close VERSO in June 2026 after five years of operation, handing over to Wycombe Abbey, a prestigious British educational brand with over 130 years of history, to be fully launched in August 2026.

Chotichawan Leetairong from BTS Group Holding Public Company Limited explained that bringing a top-tier all-girls British school to become co-educational in Thailand introduces the British Boarding School DNA as the main selling point, focusing on discipline, academics, and tangible leadership development.

He also noted that having a world-class educational institution in Bangkok will enhance the city’s ecosystem in terms of economy, investment, and attracting talent and families from around the world.

Examining educational outcomes as a gateway to world universities.

William Vanbergen, founder and chairman of BE Education and chairman of Wycombe Abbey’s international advisory board, revealed that what makes Wycombe Abbey attractive to investors and parents is its proven success: over 38% of its students gain admission to the world’s top 10 universities (according to QS World University Rankings).

More than 74% receive offers from universities ranked in the top 50, confirming the quality of education that helps Thai and regional students move closer to dreams of Ivy League or Oxbridge admissions.

Tuition exceeding one million baht per year: the price of "Asian-level connections."

The tuition fee structure of WASBKK (after a 15% scholarship discount) is clearly positioned at a premium level.

  • Pre-Nursery starts at approximately 596,530 baht per year.
  • Years 12–13 reach up to about 1,084,600 baht per year.
  • Boarding fees range from 438,000 to 550,000 baht per year, including meals.
  • Entrance fees include a 225,000 baht registration fee and a 200,000 baht security deposit.

While these figures may seem steep to the general public, for the target group this is a worthwhile investment because they are buying more than just classroom hours—they are buying a social network. Wycombe Abbey is expanding its school network across Asia, having already developed campuses in Hong Kong and China, with Thailand as the third, before expanding to Singapore and South Korea. Students here will gain peers who are heirs of business families across the region, becoming important future partners.

Prime location just 15 minutes from the airport: this move aims to create a "Regional Hub."

Positioning the school within the Thana City project in Bangna, on a large land parcel near Suvarnabhumi Airport just 15 minutes away, is deliberate. WASBKK is intended to be Asia’s boarding hub supporting expat families and investors entering the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the aviation city area.

This aligns with William Vanbergen’s vision that Thailand’s strengths in infrastructure, healthcare, and quality of life make it one of the fastest-growing international school markets.

From a business perspective, this deal reflects BTS Group’s sophisticated model of combining assets, brand, and network. BTS provides land and ecosystem support, Wycombe Abbey offers the brand and curriculum, and BE Education handles management.

This strategic move is more significant than a typical school launch; it integrates BTS’s railway (transport), real estate (residential), and education (human capital development) into a unified business model.
