For those driving past the Bangna-Trad area near the Thana City project close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, the image of the futuristic international school VERSO is about to become a thing of the past.
This 165-rai site is being transformed into a new world under the name Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok (WASBKK).
This is not merely a school name change but a significant declaration by BTS Group Holdings, through its business arm Rabbit Holdings, signaling a serious commitment to the education sector and elevating Thailand’s high-end family education into a premium asset linked to global opportunity networks.
Reports clearly indicate that over the past decade, international schools in Thailand have evolved from just alternatives to becoming a substantial market segment with significant continuous growth.
Currently, Thailand hosts over 250 international schools serving around 70,000 to 80,000 students, with a total market value exceeding 80 billion baht and an average growth rate above 10% per year.
This growth is driven not only by student numbers but also by changing parental behaviors.
All share the same objective: sending their children to top global universities. While various curricula such as American and IB exist, the British Curriculum combined with Boarding School is increasingly prominent, especially among "Premium Top Families," who see it as a comprehensive package encompassing academics, personality development, and networking in one place.
This explains why BTS decided to close VERSO in June 2026 after five years of operation, to hand over to Wycombe Abbey — a prestigious British educational brand with over 130 years of history — set to launch fully in August 2026.
Chotichawal Leetairong from BTS Group Holding Public Company Limited stated that introducing a top-tier all-girls British school and adapting it to a coeducational model in Thailand leverages the core DNA of a British Boarding School, focusing on discipline, academics, and tangible leadership development as its main selling points.
He also noted that having a world-class educational institution in Bangkok will enhance the city’s ecosystem economically, attract investment, and draw talent and families from around the globe.
William Van Bergen, founder and chairman of BE Education and chairman of Wycombe Abbey's international advisory board, revealed that what attracts investors and parents to Wycombe Abbey is proven success data rather than mere advertising: over 38% of students in the network gain admission to top 10 global universities according to QS World University Rankings.
Furthermore, more than 74% receive offers from universities ranked in the global top 50, confirming the quality of education that brings Thai and regional students closer to achieving aspirations of Ivy League or Oxbridge entrance than ever before.
The fee structure for WASBKK (after a 15% scholarship discount) clearly positions it as a premium institution.
While these figures may seem steep to most, for the target clientele this represents a worthwhile investment. They are not purchasing just classroom hours but access to a "social network," as Wycombe Abbey is expanding its school network across Asia, having established presences in Hong Kong and China, with Thailand as the third location before plans to extend to Singapore and South Korea. Students here will connect with peers who are heirs of business families across the region, becoming important future partners.
Situating the school in the Thana City project in Bangna, on a large plot close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, just 15 minutes away, is no coincidence. This positions WASBKK as Asia’s Boarding Hub, serving both expatriate families and investors entering the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the aviation city.
This aligns with William Van Bergen’s vision that Thailand's strengths in infrastructure, healthcare, and quality of life make it one of the fastest-growing international school markets.
From a business perspective, this deal reflects BTS Group’s strategic model combining “Asset + Brand + Network.” BTS provides land and ecosystem support, Wycombe Abbey offers the brand and curriculum, and BE Education manages operations.
Undoubtedly, this initiative is more significant than typical school developments, as it integrates BTS Group’s rail transport, real estate, and education sectors into a unified strategy.
