TAT Expects Songkran Festival 2026 to Generate Over 30 Billion Baht

Mr. Nat Krutsut, Deputy Governor for Products and Tourism Business at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), stated that overall travel during the Songkran Festival from 11 to 15 April 2026, totaling five days, is expected to generate more than 30.35 billion baht nationwide, a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.

For the international market, about 500,000 foreign tourists are expected to visit Thailand, up 4%, generating approximately 8.1 billion baht in revenue, an increase of 2%.

Meanwhile, the domestic market is expected to see 5,963,000 Thai visitor trips, up 7%, producing around 22.25 billion baht in tourism revenue, up 8%. This reflects the strong momentum of the Songkran tradition as a world festival that is a key driver for travel and tourism economic growth.

Recently, TAT is ready to deliver happiness for the Thai New Year through two major highlight events. First is the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2026, held from 11 to 15 April 2026 at Benjakitti Park (former Tobacco Factory), Bangkok, aiming to present the identity of the Songkran tradition by blending the classic beauty of Thai ways with contemporary charm.

This aims to reinforce Thai Songkran's status as a cultural heritage of humanity recognized by UNESCO while further creating economic tourism value and promoting Thailand’s image on the international stage.

Following that is the Saneh Art by Songkran Festival 2026, held from 11 to 30 April 2026 at Lumpini Park, Bangkok. It conveys the charm of the Thai Songkran tradition by combining 'charm' with art through the creative perspectives of Thai artists, featuring six large 3D sculptures by renowned Thai artists during 11–30 April 2026.

The festival includes recreational activities adding color from 11 to 15 April 2026 such as contemporary art talks by Thai artists, market booths, workshop booths, Thai traditional games, and Check-in Challenges with chances to win limited edition prizes throughout the festival.

Additionally, TAT supports and promotes Songkran activities across all regions nationwide to deliver diverse Thai New Year experiences that reflect local identities with charm.
