Marketing Roundup: Xiaomi Partners with Leica to Develop Xiaomi 17T Series

Xiaomi and Leica have partnered to integrate advanced smartphone technology with Leica’s century-long photographic heritage. Together, they have created two distinct photographic styles: Leica Authentic Look, which accurately conveys Leica’s unique natural color signature, and Leica Vibrant Look, which fully preserves Leica’s core identity.

Xiaomi continues to push the boundaries of smartphone photography by leveraging Leica’s cutting-edge lens technology. The evolution has progressed from the legendary Summicron lenses to premium Summilux lenses, distinguished by wider apertures that enhance image sharpness and overall quality.

In 2025, this collaboration advanced into a "strategic co-creation" phase with the launch of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the world's first smartphone equipped with Leica APO lenses. This partnership extends beyond technology to preserving brand heritage through the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, celebrating Leica’s 100th anniversary.

This special edition smartphone draws inspiration from classic cameras, featuring the iconic "red dot" and a rotatable Leica Camera Ring on the device. It includes Leica Essential mode, simulating the image quality and style of legendary cameras like the Leica M9 and Leica M3 (with MONOPAN 50 film), delivering a pure and profound photographic experience.

In 2026, marking the fifth year of collaboration, Xiaomi and Leica have launched the latest Xiaomi 17T Series, which transcends previous limits toward a superior future. It features a Leica 5x telephoto camera and Leica Live Moment functionality, representing a key milestone unlocking new storytelling possibilities via smartphones.

This evolution is partly driven by changes in user behavior, as people increasingly use smartphones to capture life's important moments. While a single photo may preserve a moment and videos record entire events, much of real life lies in the subtle transitions between these—fleeting glances, slight facial expressions, or brief intervals before and after key events. This marks the beginning of a new art form in storytelling.

Leica Live Moment on the Xiaomi 17T Series allows users not only to record what happens but also to deeply capture the feelings present when taking the photo. By incorporating motion as part of the narrative, Leica Live Moment adds continuity, emotion, and surrounding context to everyday images seamlessly.

Fundamentally, Leica’s distinctive tonal and stylistic image signature is applied across all rear cameras of the Xiaomi 17T Series to ensure users receive photographs rich with Leica’s classic character, regardless of perspective.

The new technology truly shines in lifestyle and humanistic photography. Leica Live Portrait mode enhances photos with natural bokeh effects that softly blur backgrounds, highlighting every expressive moment. Subtle facial movements and expressions—glances, smiles, or quiet stillness—gain depth and dimension when motion is embraced, allowing portraits to convey lifelike emotions.

To support this human-centered photographic approach, the Xiaomi 17T Series incorporates Leica’s legendary 5x telephoto lens across all models for the first time. This ensures Leica Live Moment can fully capture facial expressions, movements, and emotions with superior depth, sharpness, and precision, bringing photos to life vividly whether shot from near or far.

Users can experience the advanced Leica Live Moment on the Xiaomi 17T Series, which features newly developed eye-care displays designed for extended comfortable use and immersive viewing. Additionally, all models have increased battery capacity to support longer usage throughout the day.
