Metropolitan Waterworks Authority Celebrates 59th Anniversary Caring for Public Utilities

Mr. Chaiwat Chuenkosum, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and representative of the ministry, along with Mr. Chantanon Wannakejorn, Chairman of the MWA Board, and the MWA board members attended the 59th anniversary celebration of the MWA. Ms. Suwara Twichasri, Governor of the MWA, executives, and staff welcomed them.

Mr. Chantanon stated that on the occasion of the MWA's anniversary, over the past 59 years, the MWA has been a vital public utility in Thailand responsible for serving urban residents in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan, continuously improving services by adopting various technologies.

MWA executives and staff have collaboratively driven policies and operations including providing clean drinking water, digital transformation of the state enterprise, energy conservation, and supporting the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions to enhance citizens' quality of life and ensure sustainability in all dimensions.

Ms. Suwara Twichasri said that over the past 59 years, the MWA has continuously developed by incorporating digital technologies and innovations in comprehensive water management—from production and distribution systems to pipe installation and repair to reduce water loss, offering one-stop water services through MWA, and modernizing service delivery so over 12 million residents in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan have access to clean and safe tap water.

Additionally, comprehensive water services can be conveniently accessed via mobile devices, especially through the MWA onMobile application, providing fast, secure service anytime and anywhere. The MWA has also developed its personnel to be key drivers of the organization equipped with knowledge, technology, and innovation.

This is to elevate Thai water management standards to international levels, aligning with the Ministry of Interior’s 'Action 5 PLUS' policy to alleviate hardship and promote well-being, aiming to improve citizens' quality of life alongside sustainable natural resource conservation, especially water resources.

Furthermore, this year the MWA has organized community outreach activities, including the 'Waterworks Meet the People' event from 5-14 August 2026, offering advice on basic water system troubleshooting, water tank cleaning services, home leak inspections, encouraging use of the MWA onMobile app, adding friends via Line @MWAthailand, and e-Bill Service for electronic water bills and receipts, as well as campaigns to raise awareness about water resource value and promote responsible water use.

By choosing water-saving equipment certified by the MWA’s water-saving label. On 14 August 2026, external agencies are invited to join the 59th anniversary celebration, where donations will be accepted to support the Phra Mae Thorani Foundation of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority instead of traditional gift baskets. The event will also include a ceremony to present honorary plaques to those who have contributed to the MWA.
