Professor Dr. Supasawat Chatchawan, President of Thammasat University, said the Research Administration Division, in collaboration with the Thammasat University Research and Advisory Center (TU RAC), organized the university's major annual event: the 2025 Thammasat University Researcher Recognition Day.
This year’s event was held under the theme "The Eternal Light of Wisdom" to honor faculty and researchers who have produced world-class academic work and made tangible contributions to society.
For 2025, Thammasat has advanced further toward becoming the 'University of the Future,' a fully realized institution focusing on research that goes beyond theoretical progress to create structural impacts in economics, society, and technological innovation, aiming to elevate the quality of life for Thai people to international standards. The 111 researchers honored today represent the guiding lights bringing knowledge to benefit society genuinely.
This year, a total of 114 prestigious awards were presented to 111 researchers spanning diverse fields from science and technology to health, social sciences, and humanities. There were 11 award categories, including royal appointments to professorships, the Royal Plaque from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, senior research fellowships, and outstanding technologist awards.
Associate Professor Dr. M.L. Pinitpan Boripat, Deputy President for Research and Innovation and Acting Director of TU RAC, stated that TU RAC and the Research Administration Division play a crucial role this year in empowering researchers to surpass previous limits. They are committed to supporting funding, industry collaboration networks, and integrating AI to enhance research efficiency, ensuring Thammasat's work gains global recognition with distinction.
Associate Professor Dr. Nit Tantisirin expressed happiness at receiving the Royal Plaque from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, having been awarded the 2025 senior research fellow grant for her study on "Urban Sustainability and the Grassroots Economy: Challenges in Environmental, Social, Economic, and Technological Dimensions." This research focuses on the challenges faced by cities.
Specifically, it examines urban areas in Thailand grappling with balancing economic growth and citizens’ quality of life. The study aims to generate knowledge supporting sustainable urban planning and policies across economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Sairak Saadphrai, a faculty member in the Department of Sports Science and Sports Development at Thammasat's Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, said her awarded work is the ALL Wheelchair: AI Motion Tracking System for Monitoring Health and Activity for Wheelchair Users. This system combines motion sensors on wheelchair wheels and users with exercise games and a health dashboard accessible via website and mobile, enabling wheelchair users to exercise enjoyably with data.
The system tracks metrics such as distance, duration, speed, energy expenditure, heart rate, and movement location, also providing real-time fall alerts—essentially a smartwatch for wheelchair users. The project was inspired by a student who is a wheelchair athlete and the professor’s involvement in wheelchair basketball, ice hockey, and curling for disabled Thai athletes.
This experience revealed that these individuals possess physical and mental potential comparable to others but lack support, especially tools and opportunities for exercise, sports, and mobility. Addressing how wheelchair users can exercise and live like others became a key challenge to solve.
