CARIVA Highlights Medical AI Innovation to Transform Thai Public Health System

Mr. Narongchai Limpipiyapirom, co-founder of Cariva (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said that a major problem in today's public health system is not only the shortage of personnel but also the large amount of paperwork that takes doctors' time away from patients.

Cariva, specializing in developing digital healthcare solutions and strong in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, aims to introduce technology to assist in managing repetitive tasks and reducing errors, thereby giving doctors back their time to closely care for patients again.

Cariva and Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) recognize the urgent need to address structural gaps in the Thai public health system. They have introduced AI technology to unlock potential and transform hospitals with four key innovations that will help elevate Thai healthcare to fully-fledged Smart Hospitals, while returning time to medical personnel to care for patients efficiently.

1. MOR-ASR: an innovation that converts speech into medical records. Medical staff no longer need to keep looking down to type during patient interviews because MOR-ASR automatically listens and records notes. This innovation is not just a typical transcription program.

It is an AI assistant deeply familiar with specialized medical terminology, designed specifically for Thai medical personnel. The system can accurately process speech that switches between Thai and English (code-switching), including English pronounced with a Thai accent.

The system is designed to support three main work formats: OPD Clinical Record Form for outpatient departments, allowing doctors to record voice while taking patient history or summarize information after examination; IPD SOAP Form for inpatient departments, which manages notes on symptoms, physical exam results, and treatment plans; and Nurse Note for nursing documentation, helping medical teams manage paperwork and patient care more effectively.

In inpatient use, when doctors mention keywords or even abbreviations, the AI automatically expands and organizes content according to international standards (JCI), then inputs it into the hospital’s medical record system in real time. Trials at leading hospitals, such as those in the Bangkok Hospital network, show this innovation reduces paperwork by up to 50%.

2. AI-Translators break down language barriers and reduce clinical risks. As Thailand advances to become a global Medical Hub, many hospitals are increasingly serving foreign patients. Language obstacles are not only communication issues but can directly impact patient safety and lives in emergencies.

Cariva developed the AI-Translator system, a real-time medical translation tool supporting more than 27 languages, including complex ones like Polish, Turkish, and Cantonese Chinese. Unlike typical translation apps, it features dual transcripts that display translations alongside English, enabling doctors to immediately verify accuracy and prevent communication errors.

The system operates under strict privacy-first principles, with no conversation data recorded. Hospitals can trust in patient data security, fully complying with PDPA legal standards.

3. Helix Star decodes genetics to prevent silent dangers from drug allergies. Severe drug allergy reactions are a hidden health risk. Currently, over 9.7 million Thais carry the HLA-B gene variant associated with this risk, which can cause skin rashes, blistering, skin peeling, and in severe cases, organ failure or death.

Cariva developed Genomics (Helix Star), an innovation using long-read sequencing technology to accurately decode genetics. A single blood test can assess allergy risk to 15 drugs across six major drug groups (e.g., anticonvulsants and antibiotics). This genetic data becomes a lifelong health record, helping doctors plan precise treatments and proactively avoid risky medications, thus protecting patient lives from the outset.

4. Medicart: the smart medication cart. No matter how accurate diagnosis and prescriptions are, errors in medication dispensing can cause serious consequences. Medicart is designed as an intelligent drug cart to close gaps and reduce human errors in the fast-paced ward environment.

The cart’s operation emphasizes maximum safety. Nurses must authenticate by logging into the hospital's HIS system and scan patients’ wristband barcodes. When data matches the patient’s ID, the system unlocks the specific medication drawer for that patient.

This innovation fully prevents medication errors or patient mix-ups. The cart is lightweight, easy to maintain, and equipped with sensors to monitor temperature and humidity, preserving medication quality until delivery to patients.

"Cariva's four innovations were developed with an integrated approach, covering data management, genetic risk assessment, and bedside operations to return time to medical staff for close, full-capacity patient care," said Mr. Narongchai.

Overall, Cariva’s innovations integrate hospital systems from start to finish—from data management (MOR-ASR, AI-Translator), precision molecular medicine (Genomics: Helix Star), to patient care at the bedside (Medicart). This elevates safety infrastructure and affirms the Thai public health system’s global potential. The essence of a Smart Hospital lies not in replacing humans with technology, but in applying technology to support medical personnel in providing the highest quality care.

Nescafe Run Hatyai 2026 Nescafe Red Cup, Thailand’s No.1 instant coffee brand by Nestlé, announced the success of the Nescafe Run Hatyai 2026, expanding regional running events under the campaign "Good Mornings Just Need Nescafe Red Cup." Over 3,000 coffee-loving runners joined to create a good morning phenomenon in Hatyai city. Registration fees totaling more than 1,312,920 baht, without deductions, were donated to Hatyai Hospital to support post-flood recovery in 2025, while also boosting Hatyai’s economy and tourism.

Sip for Paws CHAGEE, a premium tea brand believing tea connects people, continues building deeper consumer relationships through the warm social project "Sip for Paws." It aids dogs and cats, many of whom are companions and emotional healers. Collaborating with Soi Dog Foundation, the campaign invites consumers to convert CHAGEE reward points into donations for stray dogs and cats. It also organizes volunteer activities to make pet scratching posts and encourages tea lovers to adopt over 15,000 dogs and cats via Cup Tags.
