Marketing Roundup: TICA Hosts The 11th TICA Connect for Sustainable Development

The Department of International Cooperation, or TICA, held The 11th TICA Connect at the Foreign Correspondents' Club, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by foreign diplomats, representatives from international organizations based in Thailand, government agencies, educational institutions, students, and volunteer networks.

This year's TICA Connect was held under the theme "Thailand – United Nations Partnership for Inclusive and Sustainable Future through South-South and Triangular Cooperation" to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Thailand's membership in the United Nations (UN).

The event was honored by Mr. Attayut Srisamut, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who presided over the opening ceremony. Dr. Ailan Li, UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand ad interim and WHO Representative to Thailand, delivered a keynote speech titled "Leveraging 80 Years of Partnership: The UN and Thailand as Catalysts for South-South and Triangular Cooperation."

The event aimed to present the successes of cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations in providing development assistance to other developing countries, especially in Asia and the Pacific, within the frameworks of South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation.

It also served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of international cooperation in driving progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to promote Thailand's role as a credible development partner, and to strengthen collaborative networks with partner agencies both domestically and internationally.

A special feature of this event, beyond celebrating Thailand's 80 years as a UN member, was the support for 2026 being declared the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026). This highlights the crucial role volunteers play in advancing development work and reflects Thailand's commitment to sustainable development through the efforts of volunteers both at home and abroad.

The event included engaging activities such as panel discussions on the successes of Thailand-UN cooperation in supporting developing countries and triangular cooperation in areas including global health policy, universal health coverage, maternal and child health, and evaluation of international development cooperation. Panelists came from WHO, UNFPA, and UNESCAP. There was also a discussion on the role of volunteers in honor of IVY 2026.

Both Friends from Thailand volunteers and United Nations Volunteers (UNV) shared their experiences working on development projects abroad. Additionally, there was an exhibition of crafts from the bilateral cooperation project on innovation and sustainability between Thailand and Colombia, showcasing a successful example of South-South Cooperation. A conversation with Paula Taylor, a Friend of UNICEF, also took place, focusing on work to improve the lives of children and youth.

The 11th TICA Connect highlighted Thailand's role in promoting international development cooperation and served as a key forum to connect networks from all sectors to jointly advance the Sustainable Development Goals at regional and global levels.
