Bangkok Hospital Headquarters Moves Toward Becoming an Asia-Pacific Medical Robot Hub

Bangkok Hospital Headquarters is advancing to become a Medical Robot Hub, a center for medical robotics innovation in the Asia-Pacific region. It signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Device Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to build on knowledge and elevate standards in robotic-assisted surgery. With experience treating over 1,000 patients using da Vinci Xi robotic surgery, this partnership aims to develop Thai surgeons' capabilities through education, training, and experience exchange, pushing Thailand's surgical standards to international levels and improving patient outcomes.

Dr. Akkit Surakarn, Deputy Director of Bangkok Hospital, stated that they are committed to advancing as a Medical Robot Hub and signed an MOU with Device Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to expand knowledge and enhance standards in robotic-assisted surgery.

Having treated over 1,000 patients with da Vinci Xi robotic surgery technology, the collaboration focuses on developing Thai surgeons' skills through education, training, and experience sharing to elevate Thailand’s surgical standards internationally and improve patient care outcomes.

The hospital emphasizes medical technology alongside personnel development. Experience with robotic-assisted surgeries exceeding 1,000 cases has generated knowledge and specialized skills among surgical teams, raising treatment standards for surgical diseases. This collaboration marks a significant step in establishing a robotic surgery learning system to provide patients with more effective and safer care.

Under this one-year cooperation, key projects include establishing an in-house Robotic Surgery Training Center within the hospital, developing surgeons and specialists through training and a Proctorship system.

This encompasses both national and international (International and In-house Proctorship Program) levels, setting patient care standards, advancing infrastructure and surgical simulation systems, and organizing the BDMS Robotic Surgery Annual Meeting 2026 themed "1,000 Cases Celebration & Scientific Session" on 10 August 2026. This forum will facilitate knowledge exchange among experts domestically and abroad to raise robotic surgery standards.

Dr. Chanin Pandee, Director of the Surgery Center at Bangkok Hospital and a specialist in laparoscopic and robotic abdominal surgery, revealed that the hospital has used the da Vinci Xi robotic system to treat over 1,000 complex cases, including surgeries of the abdomen, lungs, thorax, gynecology, and urinary systems. In the past three years, the hospital performed 547 abdominal surgeries, 237 lung surgeries, 131 gynecological surgeries, and 92 urinary system surgeries (kidney, prostate) as of June 2026. This technology allows precise surgeries, reduces blood loss, minimizes tissue damage, lowers infection risk,

and helps patients recover faster, shortening hospital stays and enabling quicker return to daily life. The hospital emphasizes multidisciplinary care integrating specialist expertise with medical robotic technology to deliver personalized care from diagnosis, surgery, rehabilitation, to ongoing follow-up. It also collaborates with health insurance companies to enhance patient access to advanced technology treatments.

Mr. Adam Brown, Business Manager – Capital Robotic Surgery at Device Technologies, stated that for Device Technologies, technology alone is not the answer to improving healthcare. Equally important is developing personnel capabilities, establishing standardized learning systems, and facilitating knowledge exchange among experts to ensure technology is used effectively and benefits patients optimally.

The company will collaborate to develop a robotic surgery training center, promote surgeon and multidisciplinary team development through training and a Proctorship system, support academic conferences and international knowledge exchange, and jointly develop patient care standards and workflows to sustainably enhance robotic surgery quality.

Beyond the da Vinci Xi surgical robot, Bangkok Hospital Headquarters applies various medical robotic technologies across fields, including the VELYS™ robot for knee replacement surgery, ARTIS pheno robotic X-ray arm for minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries, and the Walkbot rehabilitation robot for neurological patients. More than 600 patients have received treatment and rehabilitation with these robotic technologies as of June 2026.

Bangkok Hospital Headquarters is committed to advancing medical innovation alongside personnel development to elevate treatment standards, expand access to advanced technologies, and become a Medical Robot Hub—a center for robotic medical innovation in the Asia-Pacific region—ready to serve patients from across regions with international treatment standards.

. AI Development Lion Thailand reaffirms its leadership in innovation by driving organizational advancement through artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. . For Public Benefit Mr. Adul Kruarat, Mayor of Li Led Subdistrict Administrative Organization, received a rest pavilion worth 150,000 baht from Viriyah Insurance Public Company Limited. The pavilion was presented by Mr. Natthapong Boonyen, Assistant Managing Director, under the project "Viriyah Insurance Joining Hands to Conserve Mangrove Forests and Create Learning Centers for Sustainable Communities." It will serve as a public space within the Ban Huai Sub Mangrove Resource Learning Center and as a venue for activities promoting natural resource and environmental conservation for children, youth, and interested community members, supporting broad knowledge dissemination and fostering sustainable coexistence among people, communities, and the environment at Ban Huai Sub Mangrove Learning Center, Li Led Subdistrict, Phunphin District, Surat Thani Province.

The project "Viriyah Insurance Joining Hands to Conserve Mangrove Forests and Create Learning Centers for Sustainable Communities" offers company staff and business partners opportunities to engage in community development alongside conservation and restoration of natural resources. Beyond supporting the rest pavilion, the company’s volunteer group planted mangrove seedlings and released white snapper fish.

They also supported scholarships, school supplies, and sports equipment for students in Ban Li Led Subdistrict as part of driving ESG policies and achieving four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
