Professor Dr. Wiles Phurivath, President of Chulalongkorn University, said that over the past 109 years, Chulalongkorn has created and passed on knowledge through classrooms to generations of students. Today, we open the door to an endless universe of learning. Chula XL Hub marks an important milestone in advancing into a new era of education and lifelong learning for the university.
In today's world, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and socio-economic structures are rapidly changing. The skills and knowledge acquired through traditional education systems may no longer suffice for a lifetime of work. Learning cannot end on graduation day; universities must open spaces and create opportunities for everyone to continually upskill and reskill throughout their lives, regardless of age or career stage.
Chulalongkorn University has thus made a significant shift from focusing solely on producing graduates through degree programs to becoming a university for the people. We are committed to unlocking valuable knowledge and research that were once confined to classrooms and faculties, sharing them widely with society by shifting from traditional teaching to creating flexible learning experiences tailored to the diverse life paths of each learner.
Anyone can start learning immediately by registering on the Chula XL Hub platform and exploring courses in six categories: 1. Digital & AI, 2. Engineering & Technology, 3. Languages & Global Communication,
4. Life Skills & Society, 5. Health & Well-being, and 6. Creative & Culture. Currently, all courses are on-demand, allowing learners to study at their own pace.
Courses are available either for open registration at any time or with scheduled enrollment periods. Both free and paid options exist. Learners can watch videos, read and download materials, and take quizzes anytime, anywhere via web browsers on computers, tablets, or smartphones.
No app installation is required. The system automatically saves progress, so learners can resume where they left off. Upon meeting course criteria, learners receive badges or certificates endorsed by Chulalongkorn University, which can support job applications,
career advancement, submission to employers as proof of skill development, or further study. Learners can upgrade their account to a Lifelong Learner ID (CXL ID) to join Chulalongkorn's lifelong learning community. Regardless of age or life status, all learning records,
including certificates earned, are consolidated under a single verified identity as a personal Learning Record. This foundation will enable future integration with the national credit bank system, as specified by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and Chulalongkorn University.
Chula XL Hub gathers real practitioners and experts with experience passed down through generations across various fields. Courses are divided into two types: General Courses, which are academic courses by Chulalongkorn faculty certified by university standards,
and Signature Courses, offered by real experts and alumni leaders in each field. This is a distinctive feature of the platform. All instructors are carefully selected through alumni networks and faculty experts directly specialized in the content.
The first Signature Course series is 'Learning How to Learn,' featuring those who never stop learning. In a world where knowledge changes daily, the advantage belongs not to those who know the most, but to those who learn the fastest. Learners who master learning never become outdated, no matter how fast the world changes.
This series is free to access with nine episodes featuring professors, alumni, and experts from diverse fields, including Professor Dr. Wiles Phurivath (Why Learning Never Stops).
Other presenters include Dr. Santithan Sathienthai (What Should Humans Learn Next?), Mr. Kawiwut Temphuwapat (Unlearn to Move Forward), Dr. Wit Sitthivekin (Make Knowledge Stick), Mr. Patchara Arayakarnkul (Learn Smarter with AI), Mr. Rawit Han-Utthasa (Learn Out Loud), Mr. Alex Rendell (Let Nature Be Your Teacher), Chef Pom - Mom Luang Kwantip Thevakul (Beyond the Recipe), and Ms. Sirataya Isarapakdi (From Knowing to Doing: Lessons from Money).
Additionally, the Creative Network project invites staff from all faculties at Chulalongkorn to transform knowledge and research into courses accessible nationwide.
Professor Dr. Polkrit Saengwanich, Dean of the College for Lifelong Learning for the People at Chulalongkorn University (Chula XL), said that in a rapidly changing world, what matters is not just acquiring new knowledge or skills, but the ability to continuously learn and adapt.
Skills like using AI effectively, critical thinking, and discerning trustworthy information are essential today. More importantly, the capacity to learn new things and adapt to change is vital because knowledge and skills can become outdated, but the ability to learn ensures lifelong self-development.
For both public and private organizations, Chula XL Hub offers various services tailored to each organization's needs, from using the LMS system with Chulalongkorn or partner courses for staff training, integrating existing organizational courses, to co-developing online courses and curricula.
All formats include comprehensive support, from consulting and matching services to suit organizations, promotion before course launch, monitoring and supporting learners during courses, to summarizing results after course completion. Organizations receive reports on individual learners' progress to continuously plan staff development.
Examples include partnerships with the Thailand Counseling Psychology Association, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and other organizations using Chula XL Hub for staff training, certification renewal, skill development, or public knowledge dissemination.
Chulalongkorn expects results from Chula XL Hub on three levels: for learners, enabling all Thais to access Chulalongkorn's quality knowledge regardless of location or age; for society, creating a lifelong learning ecosystem connecting learners, organizations,
and professional associations, allowing Thais to upskill and reskill continuously; and for education, serving as a model university expanding its role from producing graduates to becoming the nation's lifelong learning infrastructure.
Professor Dr. Polkrit concluded that in the next 3–5 years, we want Chula XL Hub to be a top learning destination for Thais, whether advancing careers, continuing education, or personal development, with continuous learning and record accumulation because learning should not end with graduation.
The platform's next steps include expanding partnerships with both public and private sectors to better align courses with real-world applications and labor market skill demands, while increasing courses to cover all learner groups and expanding learning formats to On-site, Live, and Blended Learning.
