Mr. He Ning, CEO of New Sky Energy (Bangkok) Co., Ltd., said waste management is a major challenge for large cities, especially Bangkok, which produces about 10,000 tons of waste daily. Applying waste-to-energy technology offers an alternative to improve waste management efficiency and add value by converting waste into electricity.
The On Nut eco-friendly waste-to-energy plant is designed to handle at least 1,000 tons of waste per day using controlled combustion technology to generate electricity. The process begins with receiving waste into a closed-system waste pit inside the building, which can hold approximately 24,000 tons of waste.
Waste is stored for about 3-5 days to reduce moisture before a crane transfers it into a stoker-type incinerator operating at temperatures between 850 and 1,100 degrees Celsius. The heat generated boils water into high-pressure steam, driving turbines and generators to produce about 35 megawatts of electricity, maximizing the use of thermal energy from waste.
A key feature of the project is its odor and environmental management system within the plant. The waste pit is designed as a closed system with a negative pressure chamber technology that maintains internal air pressure lower than the outside air pressure.
This causes air to flow inward rather than outward. Air inside the waste pit is drawn into the incinerator system for combustion at 850-1,100 degrees Celsius to prevent odor from spreading to surrounding areas.
Additionally, E-nose technology, or electronic nose, is used to detect and monitor odors by employing a sensor array that identifies volatile compounds in the air and converts them into digital data called an Odor Fingerprint.
This data is processed with artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze and classify odor characteristics and quickly assess concentration levels. This continuous monitoring enhances environmental management efficiency and reduces potential impacts on neighboring communities.
The project also emphasizes transparency and public understanding by providing a control room, laboratory, and real-time pollution data display systems to monitor and verify environmental performance, reflecting the importance of combining technology with systematic management and oversight.
Beyond waste management and energy production, the company prioritizes community relations alongside project development, engaging with local communities before construction to raise awareness, foster understanding, and invite public participation to express concerns and feedback for planning impact mitigation.
Community relations activities include promoting livelihoods, educating on proper waste sorting and disposal, and supporting initiatives that enhance quality of life and community resilience, focusing on ongoing cooperation and good relations between the project and local residents.
Currently, the company manages relationships with over 120 communities within a 5-kilometer radius of the project to promote harmonious coexistence and sustainable growth alongside the local population.
Recently, New Sky Energy and its affiliate, C&G Environmental Protection (Thailand) Co., Ltd., led by CEO He Ning, together with senior executives and representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, donated 3 million baht to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
The donation was received by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt at the Thaninnopparat Building, Bangkok City Hall, Din Daeng, to support flood recovery, prevention, and mitigation efforts in Bangkok, and to encourage officials working to alleviate hardship and restore citizens' quality of life.
With the opening of the waste management Learning Center, the company aims to provide a knowledge-sharing space on modern waste management technology. It offers government agencies, private sector, educational institutions, and the public the opportunity to learn about waste reception, storage in waste pits, crane operation, incineration technology, electricity production, and environmental control systems through videos, 3D plant models, and site visits.
