Yesterday (23 September 2026) at 09:00 local time in New York City Ekaphop Pianpiset, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Google's office at Pier 57 in New York, USA, and held talks with Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google.
The key point of the discussion was the government's readiness to partner with Google to establish environmentally friendly Data Center standards and participate in community development.
Additionally, Google is prepared to open an Open Data Institute to enhance workforce skills and create opportunities for Thai people.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Google for their confidence and investment in Thailand through the $1 billion (approximately 36 billion baht) plan to develop a Data Center in Chonburi province and a Google Cloud Region in Bangkok. He affirmed that the Thai government is ready to facilitate smooth project implementation and aims to elevate long-term cooperation beyond infrastructure investment, especially in AI collaboration, digital skill development, and driving Thailand's digital economy transition.
The spokesperson stated that during the discussion, the Prime Minister emphasized key issues, particularly promoting clean energy and sustainable Data Center standards.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister pointed out that Data Centers are essential infrastructure for the digital economy and AI. The government prioritizes sustainable development, including energy efficiency, water management, and community care, while welcoming Google's knowledge, technology, and experience to help advance environmentally friendly Data Center standards in Thailand.
, Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, said that Google has already invested in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in Chonburi by building a Data Center.
Google prioritizes developing environmentally friendly standards that benefit surrounding communities. Additionally, Google plans to open an Open Data Institute to promote and enhance quality workforce and digital skills, offering opportunities for Thai people and startups.
Google also reaffirmed its commitment to being a long-term partner with Thailand.
The reporter added that before the Prime Minister and Ruth Porat entered the meeting room, four Thai Google employees based in New York welcomed the Prime Minister's delegation.
After the meeting, Google executives took the Prime Minister's delegation to tour exhibits on Google Cloud, AI, and Gemini. Google staff had the Prime Minister greet and talk with Gemini, who said it was a great and important opportunity and wished success for the United Nations meeting the Prime Minister was attending in New York.
Gemini asked the Prime Minister if there were any interesting topics to share. The Prime Minister replied that he was meeting Google executives to encourage investment in Thailand’s Data Center business.
Gemini responded that this was an excellent goal, noting that attracting large companies like Google would significantly aid the country's economic development. Gemini then asked about plans or strategies for presenting this, to which the Prime Minister laughed but did not answer, instead translating the conversation into English for Google’s president.
