Thai Credit Bank Drives Micro SME Growth, Shows NIM Recovery at 7.2%, Targets 200 Billion Baht Loan Portfolio

Roy Agustinus Gunara, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Credit Bank Public Company Limited. He discussed Thai Credit Bank's performance in the first half of 2026, highlighting the strength of its business model in terms of growth, profitability, and efficient asset quality management. New loan disbursements grew by 13.1% compared to the same period last year, resulting in a total loan portfolio of 194 billion baht in the first half, a 6.7% increase year-on-year.

The bank maintains a goal of double-digit growth for its loan portfolio and expects to surpass 200 billion baht in loans by the end of 2026.

Net profit for the first half grew 17.8% compared to the same period last year, supported mainly by a 6.8% increase in interest income.

Regarding the net interest margin (NIM), despite being affected by the Bank of Thailand's policy rate cuts aimed at supporting the economy, signs of recovery appeared in the second quarter of 2026 with NIM at 7.2%. It is expected to gradually improve toward the 7.5-8% target in the second half of the year through new product launches, risk-based lending, and expanding the Micro SME loan portfolio.

On asset quality, the bank targets keeping the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio stable within 4.2-4.3%. This is achieved through high-quality new lending policies, close debt monitoring, and the adaptability of small business operators. Meanwhile, the bank plans to maintain a return on equity (ROE) between 16–20%, having already reached 16% in the first half.

“For the next phase of growth, Thai Credit Bank focuses on expanding its retail customer base and reaching underserved groups by broadening service channels. In addition to over 500 loan branches and 33 deposit branches, the bank has launched Micro SME Business Centers in six strategic provinces to raise brand awareness and provide financial training to entrepreneurs,” Roy said.

Furthermore, the bank is advancing Digital Transformation 2.0 by developing a new Core Banking system on an internally built Cloud platform to control operating costs and enhance long-term efficiency. The approach emphasizes steady and sustainable growth rather than excessive investment. Concurrently, the bank continues its "Tangto Know-how" project in its ninth year, educating over 300,000 entrepreneurs and the general public to build a strong financial ecosystem from the ground up.

Roy expressed confidence that despite ongoing economic challenges, the bank’s strength as a specialized institution focused on small business operators—with an extensive loan branch network and close customer interaction—means that the entry of virtual banks or new digital players will not impact it in the short term. The bank expects to sustain its double-digit growth momentum as planned.
