Smith Phanomyong: New CFO of GULF Transitions from Capital Market Executive to Infrastructure Finance Leader

Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF) announced to the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on 26 Oct 2026 that Ms. Yupapin Wangwiwat has resigned from the company, including her positions as director, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and other roles within the company due to the necessity of undertaking other duties, effective 26 Oct 2026.

Simultaneously, GULF appointed Mr. Smith Phanomyong as the new CFO, effective the same day. Smith has been with the company since 2018 and previously managed the group’s financial affairs.

His return as CFO marks a comeback to financial management after several years overseeing asset and investment management across the group’s businesses, spanning energy, digital infrastructure, and telecommunications.

Career path of Smith Phanomyong before becoming GULF’s CFO overseeing finance

Before joining GULF, Smith was a well-known executive in the capital market sector, with experience in investment management. He served as CEO of SCB Asset Management Company Limited (SCBAM) from 2014 to 2018, also holding positions as chairman of the Association of Investment Management Companies and director of the Thai Capital Market Business Council.

After leaving SCBAM, he began his journey with the GULF group in 2018 in finance, later moving to oversee international business in 2020, and subsequently managing asset and investment administration within the group. In 2024, he was appointed Executive Officer of GULF.

His investment experience coincides with GULF’s expansion from energy into digital infrastructure and telecommunications, including investments in INTUCH and THCOM, as well as collaboration with Binance.

Smith also holds director positions in numerous subsidiaries and affiliates within the GULF group, covering energy and power plants, liquefied natural gas, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, data centers, digital assets, and companies involved in investments both domestically and internationally.

Beyond his executive roles within the GULF group, Smith serves as a director in several listed companies within the group, including ADVANC, INTUCH, and THCOM.

Regarding his education, Smith Phanomyong earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, followed by a bachelor's degree in Economics from Reed College in the United States, and a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom.

Additionally, he completed several senior executive programs, including the 20th class of the Capital Market Academy from the Capital Market Academy Institute, the 15th class of the Energy Executive Program from the Energy Academy Institute, and the 2nd class of the Advanced Insurance Program from the Advanced Insurance Institute.

His appointment as GULF’s CFO is a significant milestone for an executive with extensive experience in finance, capital markets, and investment, especially as the GULF group’s business now extends beyond energy into continuous expansion in digital infrastructure and telecommunications investments.
