Binance announced a $100 million investment in Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL), issuer of USDC, along with extending a five-year strategic partnership aimed at expanding USDC usage on Binance’s platform, especially in emerging markets.
The core of this deal lies in leveraging the strengths of both companies: Binance offers a global user base and digital asset platform enabling USDC to reach a wide audience, particularly in countries and regions where access to financial services and the US dollar is limited.
On the other hand, Circle acts as the issuer of USDC and a provider of stablecoin infrastructure, making this collaboration cover everything from issuance and infrastructure of the digital dollar to its practical use on a global platform.
Under the new agreement, Binance will promote USDC through its platform’s products and services worldwide, while Circle will provide infrastructure support for holding and using USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar.
For the investment, Binance will purchase $100 million worth of Circle’s Class A common shares via a private placement, at a price approximately 5% below CRCL’s market price prior to closing the transaction.
Richard Teng, Co-CEO of Binance, said the $100 million investment alongside the five-year agreement reflects Binance’s long-term confidence in Circle and USDC, viewing a stable and reliable digital dollar as something that should be widely accessible.
, Jeremy Allaire, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Circle, stated that Binance is one of the world’s largest digital asset platforms and a key channel for stablecoin usage. Circle sees an opportunity to use USDC to expand access to the dollar, support savings and investment, and reach people and businesses in emerging markets globally.
