Techniques from “Beauty Investor - Earth Evan” on Writing AI Prompts for Effective Investing

Many people use Artificial Intelligence (AI) daily, from chatting, language practice, asking questions, seeking life advice, to even fortune-telling. Currently, there are several AI options such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and others.

But if we want to use AI for investing, how can we write AI prompts to make it work effectively? Thairath Money We invited two Finfluencers Nikki Thidarat Charoenwut, owner of the Beauty Investor page, and Earth Sararan Khan, owner of the Earthh Evans page, to share their AI prompt techniques in this article.

How much can AI help with investing?

Many who have tried AI may have encountered issues where AI sometimes produces strange results or gives inaccurate information. Nikki Thidarat Charoenwut, owner of the Beauty Investor page, said she has experienced AI hallucination as well, such as using AI to gather information but later finding errors or data without real sources, or outdated dates.

Therefore, the first thing to become a Smart Investor using AI is "knowing how to ask AI to get the most effective answers." Investors should treat AI like an intern whom we must

1) provide complete information,

2) specify desired outcomes,

3) clearly state the goals we want to achieve.

Most importantly, always cross-check information. Prompts should request links to data sources. Once links are received, verify if the information is accurate, credible, and up-to-date.

When using AI for investing, do not ask vague questions like "Which stock is good?" Instead, do your homework and use AI to gather information. For example, if you have studied and want to invest in the Magnificent 7, ask AI broadly to collect key information, then gradually drill down into specific stocks of interest. Ultimately, you must select and decide to invest in those stocks yourself, not just rely on AI's picks.

"The key to being a Smart Investor today in line with AI is not about who knows the most, but who can provide AI with the best information and ask the most effective questions. That is the essential point." Thidarat said.

How should AI prompts be written to find outstanding stocks?

On the side, Earth Sararan Khan, owner of the Earthh Evans page, added that to write complete prompts, stock selection should include five main dimensions:

  • Revenue, to find out how the company grows, where its revenue comes from, and whether it is profitable.
  • Profit quality, delving into past profits, profit growth, and important data; investors must look deeper than profit figures because sometimes there are one-time special gains, such as profits from selling businesses.
  • Reinvestment, examine how the company reinvests its cash flow and what areas it invests in to create future value drivers. If the company does not reinvest at all, one should question what will drive its growth going forward.
  • Risk, identify the company’s or business’s risks to understand potential future problems and whether investing is worthwhile. For example, investing in TSMC carries geopolitical risks; changes in China-US policies could impact it.
  • Valuation, initially, look at metrics like the Price to Earnings Ratio (P/E), but nowadays also consider context. For U.S. tech stocks, growth should be analyzed to assess if the current stock price is overvalued compared to valuation.

By writing prompts covering these five dimensions, AI can provide investors with a 360-degree overview of the stock, aiding better decision-making.

In closing, Sararan advised investors, "What you need for investing is mindfulness and understanding. If you know what you want and have clear goals, investing will be more comfortable. But if you have no goals and don't understand what you are investing in, you won't be a Smart Investor but rather a Panic Investor."
