Although the major flooding in the south has subsided, the damage continues. Recently, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) and the Thai Bankers' Association have jointly pushed for additional measures to assist borrowers severely affected by the floods in the southern region.
Accordingly, the BOT has instructed commercial banks and their financial subsidiaries to consider providing assistance to borrowers impacted by this major flood, following the relief guidelines set by the BOT in August 2024.
These additional relief measures (as of 15 December 2025) focus on borrowers in areas designated as severely affected disaster zones (level 4) in Songkhla province. It is recommended that affected borrowers promptly contact their banks to verify their status as disaster victims and present damage evidence by 31 January 2026.
Initially, for borrowers meeting the criteria who have been heavily impacted and are unable to repay debts normally, support will include a principal payment holiday and exemption from interest accrued during this period, for up to 12 months from the borrower's request or acceptance date (applicable to borrowers who were not non-performing loans as of 2 December 2025). Participation in this program will not affect the borrower's credit bureau status.
These additional assistance measures cover the following borrower groups:
1. SME business loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 3 million baht per borrower per financial business group.
2. Housing loans or Home for Cash loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 3 million baht per borrower per financial business group.
3. Hire-purchase loans or car title loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 800,000 baht per borrower per financial business group.
4. Hire-purchase loans or motorcycle title loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 50,000 baht per borrower per financial business group.
5. Credit card loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 100,000 baht per borrower per financial business group.
6. Personal loans or digital personal loans with a total credit limit not exceeding 100,000 baht per borrower per financial business group.
For borrowers in affected areas not classified as level 4 disaster zones, assistance will follow each bank's existing measures, such as principal payment holidays, interest or fee reductions or waivers, debt restructuring, and emergency personal loans to support livelihood or business activities, tailored to each borrower's situation.
