Medical treatment costs have risen, prompting many people to buy health insurance. Recently, there have been reports that all-inclusive health insurance in Thailand is disappearing due to high claims. Some companies have stopped selling their original all-inclusive health insurance and introduced "new versions" to meet the needs of Thai customers who still want all-inclusive health coverage.
Saran Lamsam, Chief Executive Officer of Muang Thai Life Assurance Public Company Limited (MTL) said that health insurance remains a key trend that people are interested in buying due to rising medical inflation and Thailand's aging society. Recently, the company launched a new health insurance called D Health Lite, an all-inclusive plan with actual expenses covered up to 5 million baht per claim, including costs such as ICU, surgery, day surgery, and others.
D Health has been the company's best-selling health insurance. Therefore, launching D Health Lite with more premium options is expected to meet the needs of various customer groups, including office workers who can top up their existing benefits, freelancers without coverage who can access more affordable premiums, and children, as coverage is available from 30 days to 90 years old, extending to 99 years. The plan can be upgraded without a new health declaration. (A difference from the previous version is that D Health Lite caps room and doctor visit fees at 4,000 baht per day.)
The main coverage of D Health Lite focuses on inpatient (IPD) benefits, offering two coverage limits: 1 million baht and 5 million baht. Premiums may be lower if choosing a deductible or copayment plan, divided as follows.
Naturally, opting for a higher deductible or copayment (paying more out of pocket) results in lower insurance premiums. For example, Ms. Ruay Lonfa, a 30-year-old woman, chooses a 5 million baht coverage plan.
(It is recommended to verify directly with the company.)
Meanwhile, to help people receive appropriate medical care, the company launched the MTL Smile Hospital Network, aiming to simplify treatment and benefit usage. The network includes 165 public and private hospitals and offers a Faster Pre-Authorization service that estimates costs within two business days, allowing customers to check their coverage and prepare financially in advance.
Ultimately, despite rumors that companies would stop selling health insurance, this may actually be a major revision to update coverage according to medical advancements, while offering insured individuals more options that suit their budgets.
