Check Which Gas Stations Still Have Fuel with Pump Radar: Real-Time Fuel Station Status Reports Helping Thais Overcome the Crisis

Amid the turmoil in the Middle East driving oil prices above 100 US dollars per barrel on 9 March, global oil prices adjusted accordingly. However, domestic pump prices in Thailand have not surged yet, leading to public concern over possible fuel shortages and prompting crowds to fill up, resulting in some stations running dry.

In recent days, social media has been flooded with people asking in community groups which nearby gas stations still have fuel available and whether certain stations have run out of diesel. Without clear answers, many have wasted time driving around searching for fuel.

In response, a user on X named Chanon N., or @KillerNay, who identifies as a computer engineer, designed a platform called PumpRadar — Community Fuel Intelligence. It allows the public to report gas station status in real time and track it on a map.

Introducing Pump Radar

According to @KillerNay, the idea originated from seeing Flightradar24, a platform people use to check flight locations. This inspired Pump Radar, a platform to check the status of gas stations similarly.thaipumpradar.com

On this platform, anyone can help by reporting gas station status in real time. Additionally, users can

  • view a map of nearby gas stations,
  • check which stations still have fuel,
  • report status updates for others,
  • and see an overview of the country’s energy situation.

All data on the platform comes from actual users. Those wishing to report can register easily via their LINE account. The platform details include:

  • Map: Pins mark nearby gas stations, color-coded by brand—gray for PTT, green for Bangchak, etc. Clicking on a pin shows details like station status, for example, "Susco branch A has diesel available." Users can search within a radius of up to 30 kilometers.

  • Feed: The feed page shows live, real-time reports from users nationwide who mark and report gas station statuses in their areas. Reports can include photos and comments. If a station’s status changes, such as a diesel shortage, users can update the report, confirm its accuracy, or reject it to create a new status.

  • Report: To submit a report, users must register via LINE first. They can select nearby stations from the map and specify if certain fuel types are out, low, or available, report estimated restock times if known, and indicate if there are long queues, attaching photos as evidence.

  • Data: This feature provides an overview of the overall fuel situation, allowing users to view data by province or brand through a dashboard that indicates whether the current reports signal a crisis.

The gas station locations, or Points of Interest, use data from OpenStreetMap, an open data source. The developer notes that some points may be inaccurate or incomplete since data depends on user reports. Users can move misplaced pins on the map, but areas without user input may lack complete information.
