Neal Mohan's standout achievement is leading YouTube onto TV screens, making it the platform with the highest TV viewership, surpassing streaming services and news channels.
According toNielsen's The Gaugereport, since early 2025, YouTube has consistently held the largest share of home TV screen viewing, overtaking streaming services such as Disney (which includes Disney+, Netflix) and Warner Bros. (which includes HBO Max).
YouTube's advantage lies in its free and diverse content accessible to all age groups. Under Neal Mohan's leadership, YouTube has shifted to increase its presence on traditional TV screens.
Neal became CEO in February 2023 but has worked at YouTube since 2014. Since then, the red app has steadily increased its market presence.
A key turning point was pushing YouTube from a mobile app to TV screens in living rooms, becoming a free cable-like option for many households. The launch of YouTube TV, a paid streaming service offering live broadcasts from major TV channels, cable networks, and over 100 sports channels, plus a contract with the NFL, has continuously boosted TV viewership.
Additionally, Neal developed YouTube Shorts to compete with Instagram Reels and TikTok in the short-video arena, driving significant growth in advertising and subscription revenues.
In 2024, YouTube generated over $36 billion in advertising revenue and $14 billion from subscriptions. In the first three quarters of 2025, ad revenue increased by 15%, and YouTube Music and Premium subscriptions rose 25% year-over-year.
