Viriyah Insurance Reports 3,800 Flood-Damaged Vehicle Claims in Hat Yai Alone

Viriyah Insurance revealed that in Hat Yai alone, customers have submitted insurance claims for 3,800 vehicles damaged by flooding, out of a total of approximately 4,300 vehicles affected. The total value of the damages is still unable to be assessed.

On 4 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Amorn Thongthiu, Managing Director of Viriyah Insurance Public Company Limited, stated that the company has implemented urgent measures to assist policyholders in flood-affected areas. These include enhancing the incident reporting system via hotline 1557 by increasing call lines and redirecting reports from the Hat Yai claims operations center—which remains partially closed—to the Surat Thani and Ratchaprarop Bangkok centers to ensure continuous service.

Regarding reports of vehicle damage from policyholders, the claims operations center in southern Thailand reported on 3 Dec 2025 GMT+7 that approximately 4,300 vehicles have been damaged by this flood event. The total damage value cannot yet be determined until the damage assessment process concludes.

The area with the highest number of flood-damaged vehicles is Hat Yai Municipality, with 3,800 vehicles affected. Other areas include Songkhla Province with 156 vehicles, Pattani Province with 75, Surat Thani Province with 56, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province with 28, Phatthalung Province with 28, and nearby areas experiencing minor impact.

Regarding residential damage, about 180 homes have been reported for claims so far. It is expected that additional claims may be filed in the coming period as residents manage their initial recovery.

Mr. Amorn added that the company established a temporary special operations center at the Songkhla center as an emergency command base for rapid response. After the situation in Hat Yai improved, the special operations center was moved to the Hat Yai center, where all resources were mobilized.

This included accident inspectors and damage assessors from the southern claims operations center who assisted at the Hat Yai center. The operational area was divided into eight zones to visit customers at home, conduct damage surveys, and expedite claims processing as quickly as possible.

Additionally, the company has expertise from previous FIRST AID flood response operations and has prepared to respond swiftly to flood situations by accessing flood zones to remove vehicles promptly, preventing further damage from expanding.

Meanwhile, the company coordinated about 70 tow trucks to extract vehicles from affected areas. Tow trucks were mobilized from multiple provinces, including Bangkok, to expedite customer assistance despite obstacles such as debris, trash, and numerous parked vehicles blocking roads.

The company aims to tow at least 2,000 vehicles within three days and has secured safe storage locations capable of holding approximately 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles to prevent additional damage in case of recurring storms or floods.

At the same time, claims staff have processed about 1,000 claims and plan to complete them within one to two days. The company has also assigned teams to contact all customers to assess their readiness for vehicle towing and to schedule damage inspections since last week.

Customers ready for service can contact the company immediately through the Songkhla and Hat Yai centers, as well as other flood-affected area centers or hotline 1557. If repairs are arranged, policyholders may bring their vehicles to their preferred repair locations or to Viriyah Insurance's standard repair centers.

Moreover, Viriyah's volunteer group, consisting of management and staff from branches and centers, has been conducting vehicle surveys alongside gathering data on residents' needs for essential supplies in affected areas. All information is sent to the coordination center in southern Thailand to analyze and prepare necessary items.

These include ready-to-eat meals, which are then distributed quickly and comprehensively to those affected through volunteer networks comprising insurance agents, vehicle dealers, and local partners.

The company extends its encouragement and concern to all flood victims, hoping they safely overcome this event. Viriyah Insurance continues to closely monitor the situation and remains ready to provide ongoing assistance across affected areas to support recovery and help residents resume normal lives as soon as possible.
