Car Fires May Stem from Common Hazards: 4 Key Causes to Know for Prevention

Car fires may arise from common nearby hazards, the Department of Land Transport reveals four main causes to know beforehand for prevention.

Recently, reports of car fires have increased. Such fires can result from various causes. The Department of Land Transport has disclosed the main causes and prevention methods as follows.

The causes that can lead to car fires are as follows.

1. Fuel system leaks: If you detect the smell of gasoline or gas, immediately find a place to park and exit the vehicle.

2. Electrical short circuits: Caused by deteriorated wiring or electrical equipment.

3. Overheated engine: Causes fluid leaks, ignites flammable materials and electronic devices inside the vehicle.

4. Combustible items inside the car: Be cautious of flammable materials, spray cans, or electronic devices.


How to prevent car fires.

1. Check the pipes, fuel system, electrical system, and have the vehicle inspected regularly according to mileage.

2. Watch for warning lights, unusual smells, or sounds while driving.

In case a car fire occurs.

- If your car catches fire: Stay calm, park, turn on hazard lights, turn off the engine, exit immediately, and stay at least 30 meters away.

- If you see the car ahead on fire: Slow down, increase distance, turn on hazard lights, and if you lack proper equipment or expertise, do not approach or attempt to assist.
