Bentley Flying Spur Sets Snow Racing Lap Record at Swedens Winter Lap Record Track

The Bentley Flying Spur broke the snow racing Winter Lap Record in Sweden with a time of 2 minutes 58 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h on the track.

The Flying Spur Speed, an exceptional sedan, set a new Winter Lap Record with a lap time of 2 minutes 58 seconds and a top speed of 190 kilometers per hour. This is the best recorded time on a road covered with ice and snow at Drivecenter Arena in Sweden, a modern motorsport venue and one of the northernmost race tracks in the world. This achievement demonstrates the outstanding performance of this sedan model in all road conditions.

The new record was set at Drivecenter Arena race track in the city of Piteå in northern Sweden, developed from the former Piteå Air Base and located just 160 kilometers from the Arctic Circle. Although the 3.3-kilometer race track was covered with over 12 inches of ice and snow, the Flying Spur Speed managed to complete the lap in under 3 minutes.

The best time recorded was 2 minutes 58 seconds, the fastest ever achieved by a car in such cold weather conditions at this race track. The Flying Spur’s variable all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering provided exceptional maneuverability in these conditions, reaching a top speed of 190 kilometers per hour on the longest 450-meter stretch covered with ice.

This record was inspired by Bentley’s historic achievements, including two ice speed records set by Bentley in 2007 and 2011, as well as a continuous one-hour driving record by the classic Turbo R model at the Millbrook test track in the UK in 1986, where the car averaged speeds of up to 225 kilometers per hour on a sloped course.

The Flying Spur Speed used to set this record in similar icy conditions to the 1986 ice speed record carries the license plate Y15 BML and shares specifications with the Turbo R in Bentley’s classic car collection. It features a Brooklands Green body color with yellow accents and an interior decorated in Linen white, Cumbrian green, and Walnut veneer, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Turbo R model last year.

Flying Spur Speed: A high-performance sedan for all road conditions.

The Flying Spur Speed is a sedan engineered to deliver excellent driving performance on all road surfaces, featuring an Ultra Performance Hybrid drivetrain and advanced chassis. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 600 horsepower is perfectly paired with a 190-horsepower electric motor and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. In sport mode, this system delivers a combined output of 782 horsepower and 1,000 Newton-meters of torque, with the electric motor enhancing the V8 engine’s powerful performance seamlessly.

In full electric mode (EV Mode), the electric motor provides 190 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters of torque, suitable for urban travel. The 25.9 kWh battery offers an electric-only range of up to 76 kilometers according to European driving standards.

Together, the V8 engine and electric motor enable the new Flying Spur Speed to have a total driving range exceeding 829 kilometers. In electric-only mode, the vehicle can reach a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour with a maximum throttle usage of 75%.

Bentley’s Performance Active Chassis is standard on the Flying Spur Speed. Key features include the Bentley Dynamic Ride system and all-wheel steering, providing advanced suspension capabilities.

It also includes an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The new ESC software allows multiple driving modes, delivering excellent road grip on all surfaces.

The chassis and ESC software have been mechanically tuned to optimize performance with a rear-weight bias of 48.3 to 51.7. The system actively distributes torque front to rear via the central differential and precisely to each axle using braking, ensuring excellent grip in all conditions—crucial for achieving lap times on icy, snow-covered surfaces.

Bentley Bangkok, operated by AAS Auto Service Co., Ltd., the sole official importer and dealer of Bentley cars in Thailand, offers the New Flying Spur at 16.9 million baht with the best available purchase conditions.
