The new BMW iX3 is the first electric vehicle built on the new Neue Klasse platform to enter production—this comes over 60 years after BMW first introduced the New Class platform. The original Neue Klasse platform was highly successful in the 1960s, especially models like the BMW 1500, 1600, 2000 CS, and 2002 Tii, which helped rescue BMW from financial bankruptcy. The 2026 Neue Klasse platform must live up to its name, and the iX3 looks promising with a futuristic design, despite a noticeably smaller and unusual grille. The iX3 50 xDrive flagship features 463 horsepower and 645 Newton-meters (476 lb-ft) of torque, powered by a dual-motor setup driving all four wheels using BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology. This results in acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210 km/h.
The iX3 also comes with a large 108.7 kWh battery using new cylindrical cells and 800-volt technology, enabling a maximum range of up to 800 kilometers under WLTP standards. It supports fast charging at 400 kW, allowing an additional 400 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. This charging speed is 30 percent faster compared to BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology. The sixth generation reduces energy loss by 40 percent, cuts weight by 10 percent, and lowers production costs by 20 percent.
The latest advanced "Superbrain" technology is essentially a new electronic architecture for Neue Klasse vehicles that BMW describes as a "digital nervous system." It employs four high-tech computers that share processing power and oversee nearly all vehicle functions. The computer controlling driving functions, called the "Heart of Joy," manages the motor, brakes, steering, and safety systems and makes decisions up to ten times faster than previous controllers. This system enables 98 percent of braking to be done through regenerative braking alone. Additionally, a "Soft Stop" feature ensures the smoothest deceleration process BMW has ever achieved.
Platform and Structure (Neue Klasse): A dedicated EV platform differing from the previous model that shared a combustion vehicle base (CLAR). This new platform focuses on energy efficiency, interior space, and reducing the carbon footprint by over 30 percent. The 800-volt electrical system supports high-voltage operation enabling significantly faster charging—fast enough to recharge even during a quick snack break.
The new BMW iX3 (2026 model under the Neue Klasse platform) marks a major technological leap, utilizing the latest platform that supports an 800-volt electrical system for faster charging and much longer driving range. BMW has developed its sixth-generation eDrive technology for this model, with the electric motor designed in-house by BMW Group. The iX3 50 xDrive model uses a dual-motor system powering all four wheels, delivering approximately 469 horsepower. Notably, BMW's electric motors are designed without rare-earth materials in their magnets, making them more environmentally friendly.
Suspension features an Adaptive M Suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. The system uses smart sensors to detect road conditions and driving style in real time, integrating digital maps to adjust the damping of each wheel independently within fractions of a second. Drivers can select modes like COMFORT for smoothness or SPORT for a sharper, more responsive drive.
Motors and Performance (6th Generation BMW eDrive): The iX3 50 xDrive features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering a combined maximum output of 469 horsepower (345 kW) and a peak torque of 645 Newton-meters. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 210 km/h.
Battery and Charging Technology: BMW uses high-energy-density cylindrical battery cells, increasing energy density by 20 percent. The usable battery capacity is 108.7 kWh, easily challenging competitors like the new GLC Electric, which claims nearly 900 kilometers of range. This enables a nonstop trip from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani without recharging, an impressive achievement.
Range: With such a large and heavy battery, the iX3 can achieve a maximum driving range of up to 805 kilometers on a full charge according to WLTP standards.
DC Charging: Supports fast charging up to 400 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. A 10-minute charge provides approximately 372 kilometers of driving range—ample time to enjoy a fried chicken wing snack while covering a long distance. This fast charging performance even outpaces some Chinese competitors.

The BMW iX3 comes standard with Adaptive Suspension for a balance of comfort and performance, providing smoothness and enhanced driving dynamics.
A highlight is the Heart of Joy, an intelligent central computer that integrates control over the drive system, brakes, and energy recuperation in one unit, ensuring precise and highly efficient responses.
Bidirectional Charging supports power supply from the vehicle to external devices or the home (V2H/V2L).
Infotainment and Displays: BMW Panoramic Vision is a brand-new display system that spans the entire width along the lower part of the windshield, presenting driving and entertainment information in a fresh, sleek design.
Central Display: A 17.9-inch touchscreen angled toward the driver runs BMW Operating System X. Additionally, a 3D Head-Up Display projects navigation and driving data in three dimensions above the dashboard.
Safety and Driver Assistance: Driving Assistant Plus helps control steering, braking, and speed relative to the car ahead, including lane-keeping. Parking Assistant Professional offers a 360-degree view and allows remote parking via smartphone.
Surrounding sensors use high-quality cameras, radar, and sensors to monitor the environment and prevent collisions.
The BMW iX3 (G08) is equipped with a premium Harman Kardon sound system as standard, featuring 16 speakers strategically placed throughout the cabin for immersive audio. The digital amplifier outputs a combined 464 watts (some sources report up to 600 watts depending on software version and RAM). The Harman Kardon system includes tweeters, midrange speakers, and bass woofers under the front seats. Logic 7 Surround digital processing separates audio signals to create a wide and realistic soundstage. The system offers customizable equalizer settings, speed-sensitive volume adjustment to compensate for road noise, and Immersive Sound emphasizing clear mids and highs with deep bass.
The BMW iX3 Electric will be officially launched with pricing announced on 19 March 2026, expected to be in the range of 3,790,000 to 3,990,000 Thai Baht.
