Decoding the compact sedan: Why the Toyota Yaris ATIV has captured the market, becoming Toyota's top-selling model in sales.
"Thairath Online News Team" Let's explore why the Toyota Yaris ATIV has enjoyed strong sales over recent years, establishing itself as a hero product for Toyota.
Regarding the Toyota Yaris ATIV, it is a popular choice among Eco-Car and B-Segment drivers, as evidenced by its 2025 sales reaching 58,761 units. The highlights of the Toyota Yaris ATIV are particularly notable.
Especially its fuel efficiency that suits the current economic climate, powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine tuned specifically for fuel economy at 23.3 km/liter. It also offers comprehensive convenience features such as an electric parking brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, a 360-degree surround view camera, rear passenger air vents, and a screen supporting Apple CarPlay/Android Auto—perfectly fitting the lifestyle of the digital era.
Additionally, it benefits from strong brand trust, being easy to buy and affordable to repair. Toyota guarantees durability with a reliable engine, extensive service centers nationwide, readily available spare parts, and importantly, strong resale value in the used car market.
These factors make the Yaris ATIV a top choice for first-time car buyers or families seeking a long-term vehicle without the headache of maintenance. It clearly offers excellent value for money compared to competitors.
On 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Supakorn Rattanawara, CEO of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., stated that total bookings for Toyota at the Motor Show 2026, ending 31 Mar 2026 GMT+7, amounted to 6,888 units, divided as follows:
1. Eco-cars and SUVs including Toyota Yaris ATIV, Toyota Yaris Cross, and Toyota Corolla Cross totaled about 3,300–3,400 units.
2. Pickup trucks including Toyota Hilux Travo, Toyota Hilux Revo, and Toyota Champamounted to approximately2,000 units.
3. PPVs such as Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Land Cruiser FJ reached about 850–900 units.
Notably, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ received more than 800 bookings nationwide, with over 400 booked during the Motor Show 2026 itself—exceeding expectations. Customers placed orders even without seeing the vehicle in person, demonstrating a strong fan base for the Land Cruiser FJ.
Mr. Supakorn added that concerns about the Middle East conflict affecting energy prices and the continuing sluggish Thai economy have not led Toyota to revise its sales forecasts yet.No adjustments have been made to sales projectionsdue to the unstable global economic situation and ongoing war; Toyota is monitoring the impacts on markets and product lines.
" Regarding current worries about fuel prices, Toyota's hybrid vehicle sales have not been significantly impacted, since most hybrids, like the Toyota Yaris Cross, offer excellent fuel efficiency averaging 30 km/liter and are compatible with E20 fuel, meeting customers' needs to reduce expenses. "
For commercial-use pickup trucks, overall economic conditions affect sales more than diesel fuel prices. For private and recreational uses, customers tend to purchase based on long-term usage needs.
Nevertheless, Toyota continues discussions with the government on clear, long-term policies for Thailand's automotive industry to protect local manufacturing, stimulate purchasing power, and promote energy technologies aligned with Thailand's capabilities, such as hydrogen, biofuels, or BEVs produced domestically.
Mr. Natthorn Srinivet, Assistant Managing Director of Toyota Motor Thailand, said Lexus also received positive responses from fans with about 75 bookings, especially for the Lexus IS and electric vehicles.
On the issue of stricter auto loan approvals, Toyota observes that the tightening remains, especially for SMEs and farmers. Loan approvals depend on customers' credit history and repayment ability, but financing institutions strive to support customers in acquiring vehicles, particularly through Toyota Leasing, understanding their need for cars.
"Toyota tries to offer campaigns and sales packages that facilitate purchase, such as the Toyota Yaris ATIV with monthly installments starting at just over 2,000 baht, making it accessible for those who need a car because we understand customers' needs."
Additionally, Toyota employs a Customer-Centric strategy, its core approach for over 60 years, delivering diverse products and services tailored to customer demands with multiple energy options (Multi-Pathway), covering internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, and electric vehicles (EVs) to meet varied requirements.
"Most customers consider a vehicle lifespan of 6–7 years, including resale value, after-sales service, and parts availability. Toyota meets all these needs comprehensively, which is why we continue to receive strong customer support."
