Toyota Unveils Innovative Two-Row Vehicle Incorporating Technology for Enhanced Passenger Comfort

Toyota has introduced a new innovative two-row vehicle that incorporates technology to enhance passenger comfort, such as individual seats, mobile phone charging services, and automated next-stop notifications.

Mr. Surapoom Udomwong, Senior Vice President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. (Toyota), stated that the company envisions transforming into a Mobility Company, committed to advancing society and providing Mobility for All—that is, accessible and suitable transportation options for everyone.

The company recognizes the importance of seamless travel connections from main public transport systems to individuals’ final destinations, prompting studies and development of public transportation systems.

They developed the concept of an innovative two-row vehicle to elevate public travel, focusing on three key aspects: passenger safety, travel convenience, and the use of technology to meet the needs of modern passengers.

Toyota’s innovative two-row vehicles are converted from the Hilux Champ model, totaling three units. These are operated by Toyota Auto Body Thailand Co., Ltd., licensed for public transport operations, servicing Route 6—a new route starting from Samut Prakan Hospital and ending at the MRT Tipawan station.

This route covers key areas such as communities, residential zones, schools, markets, government offices, and hospitals, serving over 1,000 passengers daily from a local population exceeding 120,000 people. The goal is to promote convenient access to public transportation and improve travel quality for local residents.

The innovative two-row vehicles began service on 19 Dec 2025 GMT+7, with a flat fare of 10 baht per trip, operating daily. This launch supports the company’s goal to facilitate last-mile transportation, enabling smooth, fast, and affordable connections from homes to major mass transit systems.

Key features of the innovative two-row vehicle include the application of modern technology and innovation to enhance service, such as:

1. Individual seats equipped with seat belts for every passenger to ensure safety.

2. Multiple payment options, including automated coin and banknote machines, Prompt Pay payments, and plans to introduce prepaid cards for monthly usage in the future.

3. Automated next-stop announcements similar to those on electric trains, plus real-time vehicle tracking available via LINE Official Account: @togetamove.

4. An intercom system that allows communication with the driver.

5. Mobile phone charging services available onboard.

This project has been officially licensed for seven years, initially piloted in Samut Prakan Province—a key area connecting Bangkok and its metropolitan region. It also serves large communities, linking residents to the Yellow and Green MRT lines, which are major mass transit infrastructures in Samut Prakan.

Toyota plans to expand the project by developing additional routes to connect with Thailand’s mass transit systems, targeting expansion into main travel areas in Bangkok and its metropolitan region.

Further expansion is planned into the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) special development zones, including Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao provinces, as well as along high-speed rail routes, a major national strategic project within ASEAN, to build a sustainable mass transit system that better meets current travel demands.

Toyota focuses on creating innovations that make travel more comfortable and safe, aligning with its vision of becoming a Mobility Company. This innovative two-row vehicle project marks an important step in developing Thai two-row vehicles.

It is also part of a smart public transportation system aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life and modernizing the nation’s mass transit sustainably, positioning the project as a model for sustainable travel innovation to be extended to other areas, creating seamless connections and meeting comprehensive public transport needs.

The launch event of the innovative two-row vehicle was honored by Mr. Klin Sarasin, Chairman of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., and executives from Toyota Motor Thailand, along with Mrs. Paweena Nantikulwanich, Chairwoman of Toyota Auto Body Thailand Co., Ltd. Mr. Cheep Nomsian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, and Mr. Natchawan Alphachantechasen, Deputy Governor of Samut Prakan Province, also attended the ceremony.
