Tired of Fighting Over Chargers? In-Depth Look at 3 New EREV Cars with Range-Extending Engines Set to Enter Thailand in 2026

Deepal S07 REEV minor change, Jaecoo 6T REEV, and the popular Ford Bronco EREV are compared in terms of convenience and usability. The three EREV powertrains (electric vehicles powered by engine-driven generators) all use 100% electric motor drive but have distinct personalities, characteristics, and clearly different target audiences.

1. Deepal S07 EREV (Minorchange) is Changan's main contender aimed at the mass market. Its character emphasizes comfort and advanced technology, suitable for both city driving and long-distance travel. It features a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, a suitably sized battery allowing about 200 km in pure electric mode (EV Mode), and a 1.5-liter engine serving as a quiet generator. When fully fueled and with a full battery, its total range reaches 1,200 to 1,300 km. However, high-speed driving consumes more fuel. EREV usage requires moderate throttle pressure; driving fast in a vehicle with an engine generating electricity tends to consume more than a hybrid (HEV). The Deepal S07 REEV focuses on smoothness, quietness, and abundant interior options, giving the feel of a typical electric car but without concerns about charging stations. It suits those wanting a primary family car for daily use, especially for long trips without worrying about charging infrastructure.

Deepal S07 EREV (Minorchange) is a spacious mid-size SUV with comfortable seating.

Its body dimensions lean toward length and a long wheelbase, creating a roomy family-style cabin. It measures 4,750 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, 1,625 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. The vehicle weighs approximately 1,910 to 1,950 kg, slightly heavier than the all-electric BEV version due to the addition of the 1.5-liter engine and fuel tank but balanced by a smaller battery size.

Note: Currently, Changan Thailand has not launched the Deepal S07 REEV (range-extended combustion engine) in the Thai market. There is no official confirmation on when the REEV powertrain version will be introduced. Market speculation continues among electric vehicle users that the brand might consider launching the 2026 minor change model offering both BEV and REEV variants in the future. However, since the current model was only recently updated and marketed, the launch timing remains to be seen.

2. Jaecoo 6T REEV by Chery takes a different approach with a fashionable, boxy SUV design that is currently very trendy. The drivetrain options include single and dual motors with all-wheel drive (AWD), emphasizing more aggressive power. The Jaecoo 6T REEV uses a small 1.5-liter engine to generate electricity for the battery. Its pure electric range is slightly less than the Deepal, about 150-180 km, but combined with fuel, it can reach up to 1,000 km total range. The Jaecoo 6T REEV emphasizes versatility for off-road, dusty conditions, or urban flooded streets. The vehicle has a youthful look, ideal for those who like to stand out and enjoy outdoor activities.

Jaecoo 6T is a compact boxy SUV, shorter than the Deepal but compensates with height and boxy shape, improving visibility and maneuvering. It measures 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, 1,715 mm tall, with a 2,715 mm wheelbase. The vehicle weighs approximately 1,850 to 1,890 kg, making it the lightest among the group, enhancing agility in city driving.

3. Ford Bronco EREV is a crossbreed that shakes up the market, coming from America rather than China. Its body is a legendary, genuine off-road vehicle, but its heart is a range-extended electric system. It features dual motors with 4WD producing over 420 horsepower and massive torque. The 1.5-liter turbo engine acts as a generator. This system was developed jointly by Ford and BYD technology. Despite its heavy, aerodynamic body, efficient energy management allows a combined driving range of 1,200 km. The Bronco EREV is a true 4WD off-roader with a robust suspension ready for rough terrain, combining electric motor quietness and power. It suits wealthy buyers who enjoy camping or rugged vehicles with a raw design, unbothered by Chinese assembly.

Ford Bronco EREV is a large American rugged SUV, the biggest in the group in size and mass. It measures 4,825 mm long, 2,070 mm wide (over 2 meters wide), and 1,935 mm tall (almost 2 meters tall). The wheelbase is 2,950 mm, and the vehicle weighs approximately 2,200 to 2,300 kg, the heaviest in the group. This results from its sturdy chassis, heavy-duty 4WD system, battery, and turbo engine generator setup.

For value and advanced technology with comfortable family driving, the Deepal S07 is the best choice. If you prefer trendy boxy designs with off-road SUV style, Jaecoo 6T REEV is a cool option. If you want an American brand, rugged, tough, and unique vehicle, the Ford Bronco is the choice but comes with the highest price.

Looking at approximate prices for these three models, based on Thailand's excise tax framework for EREV vehicles (which benefit from lower taxes than typical hybrids but are slightly more expensive than full BEVs due to the engine), the estimates are as follows.

1. Deepal S07 EREV (Minorchange) estimated price: 1,190,000 to 1,290,000 baht. This model targets popular crossover competitors like the lower-spec CR-V or its own L07 sedan, priced close to or slightly above the current BEV version (1,199,000 baht). It is the most affordable mass-market option among the three.

2. Jaecoo 6T/5 REEV estimated price: 1,090,000 to 1,190,000 baht. Omoda and Jaecoo brands typically use competitive pricing strategies to capture market share. The boxy SUV in EREV form is expected to start below 1.2 million baht, making it an attractive choice compared to other rugged models.

3. Ford Bronco EREV estimated price: 2,200,000 to 2,600,000 baht. This price may be challenging unless you are a devoted fan. The Bronco EREV enters the premium segment, despite being assembled in China with FTA 0% tax benefits and EREV taxes. Its legendary rugged brand image, large body, and full-featured 4WD system clearly position it above models like the Tank 500 or Ranger Raptor in price.

A budget of 1.1 to 1.2 million baht is the battleground for Deepal and Jaecoo competing directly, while the Ford Bronco targets wealthier customers with a mid-2 million baht budget seeking an American rugged vehicle, albeit at the highest price point.
