Xiaomi YU7 GT Electric Car: Worlds First Driverless Vehicle to Complete a Lap at Nürburgring

The Xiaomi YU7 GT electric car became the world's first driverless vehicle to complete a timed lap at the Nürburgring racing circuit.

On 24 Jun 2026 GMT+7, reporters announced that Xiaomi EV made automotive history as the first in the world to set a record for autonomous driving on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The intelligent electric car Xiaomi YU7 GT, equipped with the Track Package, completed the entire 20.8-kilometer course without a driver.

It achieved a lap time of 10:29.483. The test was conducted and officially certified according to Nürburgring's timing standards. Following this success, Nürburgring introduced a new official competition category called AUTONOMOUS DRIVING (under ELECTRIC VEHICLES).

During the test, the Xiaomi YU7 GT was able to autonomously navigate all challenges of the track, covering all 73 corners of the Nordschleife, as well as the approximately 300-meter elevation changes and the complex, constantly changing road surface conditions.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is widely recognized as one of the most demanding automotive testing tracks globally. It combines high-speed straights, sequences of technical corners, constantly varying road grip levels, and nearly zero margin for error. This circuit has long been regarded as a key benchmark for vehicle development, engineering, and performance validation.

This achievement not only demonstrates the comprehensive capabilities of Xiaomi's autonomous driving system under extremely challenging driving conditions but also highlights new potential arising from deeply integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology with advanced vehicle control systems effectively.

Since launching Xiaomi HAD in 2024, Xiaomi has steadily advanced its autonomous driving technology. In March 2026, the company unveiled a new automotive platform powered by the cutting-edge Xiaomi XLA architecture and the foundational MiMo-Embodied model.

With enhanced perception, understanding, and reasoning capabilities, the system can more accurately interpret complex environments, including moving road users around the vehicle and the vehicle’s own status. This evolution advances autonomous driving technology from learning and mimicking driving behaviors toward deep environmental understanding and self-directed decision-making.

Xiaomi’s autonomous driving system is developed on an End-to-End architecture combined with a Vehicle Dynamics Model that enables real-time awareness of vehicle state and road conditions. It continuously makes driving decisions by predicting situations ahead. Under high-speed, high workload conditions, the system precisely coordinates steering, braking, and power delivery to maintain vehicle stability and deliver consistent driving performance.

Through this Nürburgring autonomous driving test program, Xiaomi continues collecting data and system performance results under highly challenging conditions to support ongoing technology development. The data will aid in refining the Vehicle Dynamics Model, optimizing driving control strategies, and strengthening Safety Redundancy Mechanisms to enhance safety, accuracy, and reliability of autonomous driving systems in the future.

Amid the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and advancing automotive innovation, Xiaomi remains committed to developing autonomous driving technology through rigorous engineering testing and real-world use trials. The goal is to elevate safety, intelligence, and travel efficiency standards, delivering safer, smarter, and more efficient mobility experiences to users worldwide.
