AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe EV New Entry Balances Power and Sound, Drops Synthetic V8 Roar for Inline-Six Growl

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe features three electric motors producing 1,153 horsepower and an immense 2,000 Nm of torque, accompanied by a synthetic V8 engine sound. Recently, a new entry-level variant has arrived, slightly toned down in power compared to the previously launched extreme-performance 63 model. The smaller 53 variant slots below the mid-level 55, yet "entry-level" here is relative, as it still delivers 537 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, powered by just two electric motors instead of three like the top model.

However, the maximum power figure is only available during Overboost. In everyday driving, the car offers 362 horsepower. The front axle motor activates only when all-wheel drive is required, conserving battery energy. Under normal conditions, rear-motor-only drive gives it a German rear-wheel-drive feel, but under hard acceleration and sharp cornering, the front motor engages to provide enhanced power and grip.

AMG intentionally equipped the smaller model with an inline-six engine sound simulation rather than the synthetic V8 sound found in the top model. The 53 variant drops the V8 synthetic engine sound from the 63 and instead features a simulated inline-six engine sound with gear-shift mimicry, inspired by the 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine of the Merc-AMG E53 Coupe.

Other specifications remain largely unchanged. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 3.5 seconds (compared to 2.4 seconds in the 63 model). The top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h, extendable to 250 km/h with the AMG Driver’s Package, down from 300 km/h in the 63 top model. Even with just two motors, the 53 remains impressively powerful—rendering the 2,000 Nm torque figure more suited for heavy-duty applications like trucks.

The true highlight of the 53 model is its driving range, officially claimed at up to 810 kilometers, compared to 695 kilometers in the 63. This advantage is thanks to a large 106 kWh battery, proving that less can sometimes be more enjoyable in an EV.

The high-voltage 800V electrical architecture supports up to 600 kW fast charging, enabling a 10-minute charge to add up to 534 kilometers of range. The car comes fully equipped with options like adaptive air suspension and a standard active rear spoiler, with an optional active rear diffuser available at extra cost, which is highly sought after.

The European starting price is 115,430 euros, roughly 4.4 million baht excluding import taxes. The 53 model is scheduled for release in Germany next week. Given these specs, many owners of the combustion-engine 53 models are eager to upgrade.
