BYD's first factory outside China has opened its doors after reaching 100,000 vehicles produced on its Thai assembly line. The facility boasts a maximum production capacity of 150,000 units per year, employs over 6,000 people, uses approximately 50% domestic parts, and has exported more than 24,000 vehicles from Rayong.
Benson Ke, General Manager of BYD Auto (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Pok Pranavong, CEO of Revo Business Group, reopened the BYD Thailand factory to celebrate the production of the 100,000th new vehicle. The historic vehicle rolling off the line was the BYD ATTO 3, one of the key electric vehicle models that has established BYD's brand presence in the Thai market.
The factory is located within the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong province. It is BYD's first automobile manufacturing plant outside China and serves as an important production base for both the Thai market and exports abroad.
Going back to 4 July 2024, BYD Thailand began delivering the BYD DOLPHIN, not only the first vehicle produced in Thailand but also BYD's 8 millionth new energy vehicle worldwide. Since then, cumulative production in Thailand has grown to reach the 100,000-vehicle milestone.
Currently, BYD and its invested companies in Thailand have a combined value exceeding 30 billion baht. The Rayong factory has a maximum production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, supporting five new energy vehicle models: BYD DOLPHIN, BYD ATTO 3, BYD SEAL 5 DM-i, BYD SEALION 5 DM-i, and BYD SEALION 6 DM-i. All models have received the Made in Thailand certification from the Federation of Thai Industries.
The factory features a complete main production process, from body stamping and welding to painting and vehicle assembly. It also includes a battery production base and an automotive wiring harness production line within Thailand.
The stamping plant is equipped with large automatic presses delivering up to 7,900 tons of force, a 2,500-ton die testing machine, and an automated equipment storage system. Currently, it can supply approximately 6,000 body parts sets per month.
Next is the welding plant, covering about 70,000 square meters, housing 20 production lines and 200 production stations, with over 520 robots installed. This section can support production of up to 10 vehicle models with a maximum output of 45 vehicles per hour.
The painting process uses water-based paint technology, dry spray booths, and RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) technology to treat and reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions generated during production. Robotic systems handle glue application inside and under the car with 19 robots, while primer and topcoat painting use a total of 64 robots. Expert staff then inspect the paint quality at each stage.
Another key facility is the Blade Battery factory located in WHA Industrial Estate Rayong 36. It is BYD's first battery pack production base outside China.
The battery plant has three production lines with a combined maximum capacity of 150,000 battery packs per year, sufficient to support production of approximately 150,000 new energy vehicles annually for both the Thai market and Southeast Asia.
Additionally, BYD's automotive wiring harness factory, which began operations in September 2024, currently produces about 6,500 sets per month and can increase capacity to around 10,000 sets per month. It uses MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and Monitor Board systems to track machine operations in real time.
The milestone of producing 100,000 vehicles reflects not only the volume of cars from the assembly line but also the expansion of the new energy vehicle supply chain in Thailand.
Currently, BYD Thailand's factory employs over 6,000 people, with approximately 95% being Thai nationals. The welding plant has about 98% Thai employees, and the wiring harness factory has about 99.3% Thai staff.
Regarding local parts usage, about 50% of components are sourced domestically. BYD has developed partnerships with over 266 parts manufacturers and suppliers in Thailand, including 125 domestic material and parts producers, and has certified more than 1,090 parts under the TAI standard.
The BYD Thailand factory does not only produce vehicles for domestic sales but is also positioned as a manufacturing base for exports.
In the first half of 2026, exports accounted for about 40% of total production, with cumulative exports exceeding 24,000 vehicles to more than 10 countries and regions, including ASEAN, South Asia, Australia, and Europe.
The successful production of the 100,000th vehicle stands as proof of BYD’s Thailand factory, transitioning from the company’s first plant outside China to a new energy vehicle production hub integrating vehicle assembly, battery production, and key components within one system.
At the same time, the employment figures, local parts utilization, and vehicle exports made by Thai workers will be closely watched indicators of whether BYD will expand Rayong's role further within its global production network after surpassing 100,000 vehicles produced in Thailand.
