The creation of the stunning electric sedan model 6e challenges traditional perceptions of Mazda. Now it's time for the arrival of the CX-6e SUV, which Mazda insiders say the brand will push more aggressively than before. The new vehicles to be launched will include the fully electric CX-6e priced at 1.2 million baht and a mild hybrid SUV expected soon. The CX-6e is imported from China, featuring a modern, massive touchscreen, a crossover-style design with a fully electric platform, energy management capabilities, and Thailand remaining the main production base as with the CX-3 Mild Hybrid. The 7.4 billion baht investment in the Rayong assembly plant demonstrates strong confidence in Thailand's automotive market, deeply tied to the brand for a long time.
The Mazda CX-6e, as a new-energy vehicle, is larger than the CX-30, measuring 4.8 meters long and 1.9 meters wide—dimensions comparable to the Audi Q6 e-tron. However, at the Beijing Auto Show, the CX-6e appeared compact and tight, reflecting Mazda's award-winning design style. Its sharp lines connect seamlessly across the body, with sophisticated aerodynamic techniques like the air intake on the hood resembling the Ferrari 488 Pista. Air flows through this vent, passing the rear passenger door glass and exiting through narrow slots near the rear C-pillar. This design conveys a lively and dynamic feeling but may not appeal to everyone, as achieving universally liked styling can increase costs and challenge balance. Combined with Mazda's color options—classic Soul Red, a new deep purple shade, white, and standard grey—the CX-6e crossover EV makes a strong first impression.
The vehicle shares its platform with the Mazda 6e, developed jointly with Changan. It offers a single powertrain option, like the sedan: a Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor producing 258 horsepower and 290 Newton-meters of torque. The 78 kWh lithium battery allows a maximum WLTP range of about 482 kilometers on a full charge. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes roughly 8 seconds. Its performance does not lead the high-end segment in terms of range or acceleration. Fast DC charging supports up to 200 kW, sufficient for a 30-minute charge to add at least 250–300 kilometers of range.
Inside, the giant touchscreen stands out as one of the largest center displays available. The CX-6e's 26-inch horizontal screen dwarfs the 6e sedan's display. The portion farthest from the driver is reserved for passengers. Even the Changan Deepal S07, sharing the same platform, does not have a screen this large. Notably, there is no traditional dashboard or gauge cluster; instead, the vehicle uses a clear, easy-to-read head-up display (HUD) projected onto the windshield.
All adjustment and control functions are integrated into the touchscreen, including climate control, drive mode selection, regenerative braking levels, and ADAS safety system activation or deactivation—which the reviewer preferred to turn off immediately when driving. Mazda re-tuned these settings specifically for the Thai-spec CX-6e without relaxing or disabling proactive safety interventions. This suggests that many younger drivers rely heavily on these systems rather than their own focus. This raises the question of whether such reliance truly ensures safety.
The Mazda 6e impresses with its exterior and interior design as well as driving performance linked to daily use. It conveys vitality without the sharpness of the previous Mazda 6, as Mazda aims for the 6e to embody a more mature character than a youth-oriented electric car. The SUV shape provides more usable space, making the CX-6e a good choice amid the popular Chinese electric crossover trend. The design skillfully incorporates aerodynamics.
