GAC Group Launches First GAC INPOW Battery Factory in Thailand Outside China

GAC Group has opened its first GAC INPOW battery factory in Thailand outside China, reinforcing a complete EV ecosystem.

Mr. Xu Junhai, General Manager of GAC INPOW, stated that the battery PACK assembly factory in Thailand is GAC Group’s first overseas battery PACK facility that it has invested in and operates itself. This marks a key milestone in establishing a comprehensive overseas operational system covering production.

From charging, product delivery, to mobility services, this factory exemplifies the concrete implementation of the 'ONE GAC 2.0' and 'Thailand Action 2.0' strategies. It plays a vital role in promoting local production, developing energy networks, and elevating service systems into a fully integrated model.

Mr. Noppongpol Yodmuangcharoen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy, said that the current energy transition is moving from oil dependency to battery technology. This factory represents a future power production base driven by Thai potential, reflecting significance in three key areas:

Creating added economic value and maintaining domestic employment; enhancing energy security by producing and storing energy locally to reduce import reliance; and integrating battery technology with the national power grid through collaboration with EGAT.

The Ministry of Energy is committed to promoting and revising regulations to broaden energy access to the public tangibly, while emphasizing sustainable battery lifecycle management.

From now on, Thailand's energy security metrics will be measured not by oil import volumes but by the kilowatt-hour energy capacity accessible and usable by citizens. Congratulations to GAC INPOW for playing a pivotal role in elevating Si Racha District as the genuine starting point for Thailand’s future energy security.

Dr. Kriangsak Wongpomrat, Director of the Automotive Institute, added that the opening of GAC INPOW’s production base today is a significant milestone reflecting confidence in Thailand’s potential as a regional automotive industry hub.

Especially as Thailand’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market is growing rapidly, having a domestic battery production base—the core of electric vehicles—not only strengthens the supply chain.

It also facilitates the transfer of advanced technology knowledge to Thai personnel, generates employment and income, and aligns with genuine greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. The Automotive Institute believes this production base will be key to advancing Thailand’s automotive industry into the new energy era and sustainably enhancing global competitiveness.

The GAC INPOW factory in Thailand is INPOW Battery’s first overseas battery pack production base (INPOW Battery is a wholly-owned GAC subsidiary), with a total investment exceeding 50 million yuan on over 13,000 square meters within Sihaitong Industrial Park, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province.

The factory stands out with fully automated assembly lines integrating advanced international technologies, such as intelligent CCD image inspection systems for maximum laser welding precision and robotic welding to optimize production efficiency.

Moreover, operations strictly follow ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management standards. Every product undergoes insulation withstand voltage testing at 1,500 volts and IP68 water and dust protection tests to guarantee 100% quality.

Currently, local procurement of raw materials and components accounts for 78.85%, with plans to increase this share continuously. Battery packs produced will first be delivered to GAC’s automobile factory in Thailand to realize the vision 'In Thailand, For Thailand' concretely.

Producing batteries, the essential core of electric vehicles in Thailand, is a significant step that extends GAC Thailand’s energy ecosystem network beyond charging stations to become a full-fledged vehicle energy producer.

This battery factory opening allows GAC Thailand to seamlessly integrate all processes—from battery production and vehicle assembly to domestic charging service—building a stable production base to support the future energy ecosystem network.

Continuing the vision to drive sustainable green mobility.

Since entering the Thai market in 2023, launching a smart factory production line in Rayong in 2024, and now successfully opening the battery factory, GAC has progressed from a finished vehicle importer to a vehicle manufacturer and further to a domestic producer of critical components.

These advances enable GAC to fully realize electric vehicle mobility through a comprehensive Mobility Hub and provide lifelong customer care.

With 64 authorized standard service centers covering 95% of key sales areas, supported by large spare parts warehouses, standard body and paint repair centers, professional battery repair centers, lifetime warranty under the GAC CARE program, and 24-hour emergency assistance.

Completing a seamless mobility ecosystem.

The battery factory opening is a crucial piece that perfects GAC Thailand’s ecosystem in vehicle production, battery manufacturing, and charging networks. Currently, GAC Energy and partners operate 293 charging stations nationwide (18 directly managed and 275 partners), covering all five regions with 1,388 DC fast charging points.

Looking ahead, GAC plans the '100 Cities, 1,000 Chargers' project, integrating solar energy, energy storage, and battery swapping technologies to ensure maximum travel confidence for electric vehicle users in Thailand, alongside strategic partnerships with EGAT and INNOPOWER to expand clean energy networks.
