
Metro Group has secured the rights to sell HONGQI, a Chinese luxury car brand favored by the country's leaders, and is moving forward to establish a strong position in the ultra-luxury and premium car markets.
Mr. Bodin Boonvisut, CEO of Metro Group, stated that HONGQI is a historic and prestigious Chinese automotive brand, serving as the nation's leader car, produced by FAW Group or First Automotive Works, China's first automotive company founded by the central government. The brand is set to officially launch in Thailand's automotive market by mid-2026.
Metro Group will be the distributor with authority to appoint dealers and act as a strategic partner to strengthen HONGQI as a premium luxury car brand in Thailand, offering distinctive design, performance, quality, and internationally recognized safety standards.
With over 70 years of expertise in the Thai automotive business, now in its third generation, Metro Group will bolster confidence through comprehensive marketing activities, full-service offerings, after-sales support, and parts availability, ensuring HONGQI's successful and prestigious entry into the Thai market.
HONGQI, meaning "Red Flag," is a vehicle historically used by Chinese leaders, becoming a national symbol and source of pride. The HONGQI models entering Thailand will range from ultra-luxury to premium segments, catering to the luxury car market as well as the expanding premium electric vehicle sector, moving beyond mass-market offerings to meet serious premium customer demand.
"I have admired HONGQI cars since childhood, recognizing them as the official vehicles of Chinese leaders. As I learned more about China's automotive industry, I realized HONGQI is a uniquely special brand. I got to know FAW Group better, and both sides gained confidence. With the strong diplomatic ties between Thailand and China, HONGQI chose Thailand as one of the first right-hand drive markets to enter, reflecting the deepening bilateral relationship. Finally, Metro Group hopes to have the opportunity to introduce other FAW Group brands in the future," he said.
Currently, FAW Group exports HONGQI vehicles to 87 countries and regions worldwide, including Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, with over 120 overseas dealers. In Southeast Asia, representatives are appointed in Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
