Chinese automotive giant BYD has unveiled images of the BYD Racco, an electric Kei car developed specifically to target the Japanese market, with official sales planned for mid-2026.
The BYD Racco debuted at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, though few details were initially disclosed. Recently, BYD released interior photos of the model and announced plans to launch it within the next few months.
The BYD Racco belongs to the Ocean Series lineup, which also includes the Dolphin, Seal, Seagull, and Sealion models. The name 'Racco' means 'sea otter' in Japanese.
The BYD Racco will be available in two versions: a Standard Range with a 20 kWh battery delivering about 200 km of driving range, and a Long Range featuring a 30 kWh battery extending the range to roughly 300 km. Both versions use front-wheel drive.
Inside, the dashboard and air vents feature a smooth, rounded design. It includes a three-spoke steering wheel, one central touchscreen, and one driver information display. Unlike some other models, it retains physical gear levers and control buttons instead of relying solely on touchscreens.
BYD has not yet revealed rear cabin images, but it is expected the second row will seat two passengers, typical for Kei cars. Additionally, dual sliding rear doors will facilitate easier access in tight spaces.
Sales are anticipated to begin by mid-2026. According to one source, the starting price is expected to be around 2,500,000 yen, approximately 501,000 baht.
