Great Value Arrives: BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport with Large Battery and Ultra-Long Range

The BMW iX3 is the first electric vehicle on the Neue Klasse platform to enter production, more than 60 years after BMW first introduced the original Neue Klasse car. That original platform was highly successful and became the foundation of modern cars. The initial Neue Klasse models in the 1960s, especially the BMW 1500, 1600, 2000 CS, and 2002 Tii, helped BMW recover from financial bankruptcy. The new Neue Klasse platform launching in 2026 truly lives up to its name, and the iX3 drives exceptionally well. The car's design emphasizes modernity, with a distinctive, smaller grille. The standout spec of the iX3 50 xDrive is its 469 horsepower and 645 Newton-meters (476 lb-ft) of torque delivered to all four wheels by dual motors using BMW's 6th generation eDrive technology. This means the new iX3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210 km/h.

The iX3 50 xDrive M Sport features a completely redesigned exterior that reinterprets BMW’s traditional identity from a futuristic perspective. The vertical kidney grille echoes the original Neue Klasse models from the 1960s and is equipped with BMW Iconic Glow lighting instead of the previous chrome frame. All four door handles include illuminated lighting. The rear charging port cover uses AI to detect if the driver intends to park for charging and then opens or closes automatically. The sides feature large body surfaces with precise lines creating a unique angular appearance. The wheel arches have sharp edges complementing the 22-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels. The rear lights stretch horizontally to the center of the car. Cargo space reaches 1,750 liters with the rear seats folded down, plus an additional 58 liters of storage space under the front hood.

The iX3 is equipped with a large 113.4 kWh battery using new cylindrical cells and 800-volt technology, enabling a maximum driving range of up to 800 kilometers under WLTP standards. It supports ultra-fast 400 kW charging, adding an additional 400 kilometers in just 10 minutes. This charging speed is 30% faster compared to BMW's 5th generation eDrive technology. The 6th generation technology reduces energy loss by 40%, battery weight by 10%, and production costs by 20%.

The "Superbrain" electric control system is based on Neue Klasse’s electronic architecture, which BMW describes as a "digital nervous system." It uses four advanced computers that collectively manage almost every function of the vehicle. The computer controlling driving, called the "Heart of Joy," manages the motor, brakes, steering, and all safety systems, making decisions ten times faster than traditional control units. This allows 98% of braking to be done solely by regenerative braking. The "Soft Stop" feature ensures the smoothest deceleration BMW has ever achieved in the iX3.

The BMW iX3, chassis code NA5, is the first Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) built on the Neue Klasse platform, a modern BMW architecture designed specifically for electric vehicles (EVs). (There is also an internal combustion platform which is separate.) Key technical details are as follows.

The Neue Klasse platform is a dedicated EV platform, distinct from the previous model which shared a platform with combustion vehicles (CLAR). This new platform focuses on energy efficiency, interior space, and reduces the carbon footprint by over 30%. The 800-volt electrical system supports high-voltage charging, significantly speeding up the charging process.

The latest platform supports an 800-volt electrical system, enabling much faster charging and longer driving ranges. BMW developed the 6th generation eDrive technology for this model, with electric motors designed and produced in-house by BMW Group. The iX3 50 xDrive uses a dual-motor system driving all four wheels, producing about 469 horsepower. Notably, BMW's electric motors are designed without rare-earth materials in their magnets, making them more environmentally friendly.

The Adaptive M Suspension uses electronically controlled shock absorbers. Intelligent sensors detect road conditions and driving style in real time, combined with digital mapping, to automatically adjust the damping for each wheel within milliseconds. Drivers can select modes like COMFORT for smoothness or SPORT for sharper handling. Despite the large and heavy 113.4 kWh battery, the iX3 achieves a maximum driving range of 805 kilometers on a full charge (WLTP standard). DC fast charging supports up to 400 kW, charging from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes, or adding about 372 km of range in 10 minutes.

The BMW iX3 comes standard with Adaptive Suspension from the factory, designed to provide a balance of smoothness and driving performance.

A highlight is the Heart of Joy electric control system, an intelligent central computer that integrates control of the drivetrain, brakes, and energy recuperation into a single unit, enabling highly precise and efficient responsiveness.

Bidirectional Charging supports power output from the vehicle to external devices or homes (V2H/V2L). The infotainment system features the new BMW Panoramic Vision display, a wide-screen dashboard that spans the lower windshield. The central touchscreen is 17.9 inches, angled toward the driver, running BMW Operating System X. The 3D Head-Up Display integrates navigation and autonomous driving information into a three-dimensional projection above the dashboard.

Safety and driver assistance include Driving Assistant Plus, which assists with steering, braking, and maintaining speed relative to the car ahead, as well as lane-keeping. Parking Assistant Professional offers a 360-degree view and allows remote parking control via smartphone. Surround sensors use cameras, radar, and high-quality sensors to monitor the environment and prevent collisions.

The BMW iX3 (G08) comes standard with a premium Harman Kardon audio system featuring 16 speakers distributed throughout the cabin to create immersive sound. The digital amplifier delivers a total output power of 464 watts (some sources report up to 600 watts depending on software, RAM, and booster versions). The Harman Kardon speakers include tweeters, midrange speakers, and central bass woofers located under the front seats. The Logic 7 Surround system digitally processes sound to create a wide and realistic soundstage. The equalizer allows fine frequency adjustments to personal preference. The Speed-Sensitive Volume adjusts audio levels automatically based on vehicle speed to compensate for external noise. Immersive Sound technology emphasizes clarity in mid and high frequencies with deep, smooth bass from the under-seat woofers.
