Excellent Value Arrives: BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport with Large Battery and Ultra-Long Range

The BMW iX3 is the first electric vehicle built on the Neue Klasse platform to enter production, marking a significant milestone since BMW first introduced the original Neue Klasse over 60 years ago. The original 1960s Neue Klasse models, especially the BMW 1500, 1600, 2000 CS, and 2002 Tii, helped save BMW from financial bankruptcy and set the foundation for modern vehicles. The new Neue Klasse platform launching in 2026 truly lives up to its name, with the iX3 delivering excellent driving performance. The car features a futuristic design with a smaller, striking grille. The iX3 50 xDrive boasts 469 horsepower and 645 Newton-meters (476 lb-ft) of torque, powered by dual motors driving all four wheels using BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. This allows the new iX3 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210 km/h.

The iX3 50 xDrive M Sport introduces a completely redesigned exterior, reinterpreting classic BMW elements with a modern, futuristic perspective. The signature kidney grille is now vertically oriented, reminiscent of the original Neue Klasse models from the 1960s. It features BMW Iconic Glow lighting instead of the traditional chrome frame. All four door handles include integrated lighting. The rear charging port cover uses AI to detect the driver’s intention to charge and automatically opens or closes accordingly. Along the sides, the large body panels are sculpted with precise lines to create a distinctive geometric appearance. The angular wheel arches complement the 22-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels. The horizontal taillights extend toward the center of the vehicle. Cargo space measures 1,750 liters with the rear seats folded down, plus an additional 58-liter storage compartment under the front hood.

The iX3 is equipped with a large 113.4 kWh battery using new cylindrical cells and 800-volt technology, enabling a maximum driving range of 800 kilometers under the WLTP standard. It supports ultra-fast 400 kW charging, adding 400 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. This represents a 30% improvement in charging speed compared to BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology. The sixth-generation system reduces energy loss by 40%, lowers weight by 10%, and cuts production costs by 20%.

The vehicle's electronic brain, the "Superbrain" technology, is based on Neue Klasse’s electronic architecture, which BMW describes as a "digital nervous system." It employs four advanced computers working together to manage nearly all vehicle functions. The computer controlling driving, called the "Heart of Joy," manages the motors, brakes, steering, and safety systems, making decisions ten times faster than previous control units. This enables 98% of braking to be performed using regenerative braking alone. The "Soft Stop" function provides the smoothest deceleration process BMW has ever achieved.

The BMW iX3, chassis code NA5, is the first Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) built on the Neue Klasse platform, a modern electric vehicle architecture designed specifically for EVs (separate from BMW’s internal combustion engine platforms). Key technical details include:

Platform and Structure (Neue Klasse): A dedicated EV platform distinct from the previous CLAR platform shared with combustion vehicles. This new platform focuses on energy efficiency, interior space optimization, and reducing the carbon footprint by over 30%. Electrical System: 800-volt architecture supports high-voltage operation, enabling significantly faster charging speeds.

The latest platform supports an 800-volt electrical system, allowing faster charging and much longer range. BMW developed the sixth-generation eDrive technology for this model, featuring in-house designed electric motors. The iX3 50 xDrive uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing approximately 469 horsepower. Notably, BMW’s electric motors are designed without rare-earth materials in their magnets, making them more environmentally friendly.

Adaptive M Suspension: Electronically controlled shock absorbers use intelligent sensors to detect road conditions and driving style in real time, combined with digital map data. This system automatically adjusts the damping force of each shock absorber within milliseconds. Drivers can select modes such as COMFORT for smoothness or SPORT for more precise handling. With its large 113.4 kWh battery, which is both heavy and sizable, the iX3 achieves a maximum range of up to 805 kilometers per full charge (WLTP standard). DC fast charging supports up to 400 kW, enabling charging from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes, or adding approximately 372 kilometers of range in 10 minutes.

The BMW iX3 comes standard with Adaptive Suspension, an electronically adjustable suspension system from the factory, designed to balance ride comfort and dynamic performance.

A highlight is the Heart of Joy, the intelligent central computer that integrates control of the drivetrain, braking, and energy recuperation systems. This consolidation ensures highly precise and efficient vehicle response.

Bidirectional Charging: The iX3 supports power output from the vehicle to external devices or homes (V2H/V2L). Infotainment and Displays: The BMW Panoramic Vision system features a brand-new widescreen display stretching across the lower windshield. The central touchscreen measures 17.9 inches, angled toward the driver, running BMW Operating System X. A 3D Head-Up Display integrates navigation and autonomous driving information in three dimensions above the dashboard.

Safety and Driver Assistance: Driving Assistant Plus offers steering, braking, and adaptive speed control to maintain distance from the vehicle ahead and lane-keeping assistance. Parking Assistant Professional provides intelligent parking with a 360-degree camera view and remote parking control via smartphone. Surround sensors include high-quality cameras, radar, and sensors to monitor the environment and prevent collisions.

The BMW iX3 (G08) is equipped with a premium Harman Kardon sound system as standard, featuring 16 speakers strategically placed throughout the cabin to create immersive surround sound. The digital amplifier delivers a total output power of 464 watts (with some sources noting up to 600 watts depending on software, RAM, and booster versions). The Harman Kardon system includes tweeters, midrange speakers, and subwoofers located under the front seats. Logic 7 Surround technology digitally processes sound signals to create a wide, realistic soundstage. Sound tuning options include an equalizer for detailed frequency adjustments, speed-sensitive volume that automatically adjusts for road noise, and immersive sound emphasizing clear mid-high frequencies with deep bass from the under-seat woofers.
