Thai-assembled, Well-priced: Exploring the Appeal of the CHANGAN NEVO Q05

CHANGAN Automobile launched the 'CHANGAN NEVO Q05,' a new-generation electric SUV designed by a world-class designer. It offers spacious interiors and technology suited to modern lifestyles, high safety standards, and fast charging. The NEVO Q05 starts at 599,900 baht (down from the regular price of 629,000 baht). The "NEVO Care" package covers purchase, delivery, and after-sales service.

The CHANGAN NEVO Q05 was designed by Klaus Zyciora, a renowned global automotive designer and Head of Global Design at CHANGAN Automobile. Its balanced, aerodynamic body enhances stability and energy efficiency. It features 18-inch alloy wheels and five body color shades. Technology includes a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.17-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice commands, OTA software updates, ADAS driver assistance, a 360-degree 3D surround-view camera, transparent vehicle visualization, 360-degree video recording, smartphone app vehicle control, and a CATL battery supporting 3C fast charging from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes.

The NEVO Q05 competes in the B-SUV/Compact Crossover 100% electric segment and was freshly priced in Thailand on 28 May 2026. CHANGAN chose a second-generation pure electric (BEV) platform for the right-hand drive version assembled at the Rayong plant.

It is priced to challenge market leaders like BYD.

NEVO Q05 MAX model (51.9 kWh battery) is priced at 599,900 baht.

Q05 ULTRA model (51.9 kWh battery) is priced at 679,900 baht.

Regarding body size and vehicle class, though compact, the NEVO Q05 uses modern design to maximize interior space, resulting in a roomy cabin despite its moderate exterior dimensions. Its shape resembles the HR-V. The Q05 targets competitors such as BYD ATTO 3, ORA 5 SUV, and BYD ATTO 2, with dimensions of 4,435 mm length, 1,855 mm width, 1,600 mm height, and a 2,735 mm wheelbase. The relatively long wheelbase provides spacious rear legroom. Cargo space is 450 liters, expandable up to 1,380 liters with rear seats folded.

Comparing the NEVO Q05 to Japanese hybrid HEVs, it offers a wider body and more interior space than similarly priced Japanese models. At 1,855 mm wide, it is 3 cm wider than the Toyota Corolla Cross and 6.5 cm wider than the Honda HR-V. Parked side-by-side, the Q05 appears more muscular and substantial. The rear seat comfortably accommodates three passengers with less shoulder contact than Japanese rivals.

Although the wheelbase and overall length differ, the NEVO Q05 is slightly shorter (by about 2.5 cm) and lower than the Corolla Cross, but has a 9.5 cm longer wheelbase due to the electric vehicle design that pushes wheels to the corners. This provides more rear legroom and comfort than the Corolla Cross. Compared to Honda HR-V and Nissan Kicks, the Q05 is larger and longer in all dimensions, especially with a 12.5 cm longer wheelbase than the HR-V. This nearly puts its rear cabin space in the category of larger SUVs like the CR-V. Overall, the NEVO Q05 offers Corolla Cross–comparable length but with superior width and rear legroom, making it notably more spacious than Japanese hybrid competitors in this segment.

CHANGAN’s setup focuses on efficiency and urban driving rather than aggressive performance. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) electric motor is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with 163 horsepower (120 kW) and 190 Nm torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is about 8.2 seconds, with a claimed top speed of approximately 150-160 km/h. The battery uses CATL’s Golden Shield lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, with 51.9 kWh capacity and a maximum NEDC range of 462 kilometers. Real-world daily driving, considering traffic and air conditioning use, would likely yield around 350 kilometers.

A key highlight of the NEVO Q05 is its fast-charging capability, remarkable for a 599,000 baht vehicle. It features 3C technology supporting DC charging up to 162 kW, which is very high for this price segment. Charging from 30% to 80% takes only 15 minutes, making it convenient for long-distance travel without long stops. For AC charging or home charging, it supports up to 6.6 kW. The top Ultra model also offers V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability, supplying 3.3 kW power to external devices.

The NEVO Q05’s interior design and controls are well-executed and appealing, following the popular minimalist trend. Soft-touch materials cover about 80% of the cabin. The steering wheel has a flat-bottom design with multifunction controls and four-way adjustment. The digital instrument cluster is a 10.17-inch full digital display positioned slightly higher, resembling design trends seen in Peugeot or CHANGAN’s Deepal model. The central touchscreen is a large 14.6-inch 1080p display powered by the MediaTek MTK8675 chip. However, for users who prefer physical buttons or analog controls, the Q05 relies mostly on the central tablet screen, typical of modern electric vehicles.

CHANGAN priced the NEVO Q05 at 599,000 baht, signaling an aggressive entry into the small family car segment price war. The combination of CATL battery and fast 162 kW charging is a strong selling point. The suspension setup (front McPherson strut, rear torsion beam) and ride quality on Thai roads remain to be tested. The NEVO Q05 is a small electric vehicle that has received positive feedback, with strong bookings at the 47th Motor Show. Deliveries to customers will begin in June 2026. The first 3,000 buyers who take delivery by 30 June 2026 will receive the NEVO Care Upgrade package.
