Volvo Faces Lawsuit from Consumer Protection Office over EX30 Electric Car Battery Fire

The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has filed a civil lawsuit against both Scandinavian Auto and Volvo Cars (Thailand) regarding the fire incident involving the Volvo EX30.

On 5 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdee, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and supervisor of the OCPB, revealed that the Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) meeting No. 3/2026 reviewed a total of 48 cases.

. The key pointis the initiation of 35 civil cases against businesses violating consumer rights, covering real estate, services, general product purchases, and online goods. More than one-third of complaints received by the OCPB involve online purchases, reflecting consumer risks in the digital age.

"A case of interest is the civil lawsuit against Scandinavian Auto Co., Ltd. and Volvo Cars (Thailand) Co., Ltd. for breach of contract concerning the sale of the Volvo EX30 electric car amid safety concerns about its battery."


The OCPB must act swiftly, proactively, and decisively.It must be reliable.Businesses that exploit consumers must be held accountable, and affected consumers must be fully compensated. This policy aligns with the government's direction under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Additionally, consumers are urged to carefully review contracts and terms before making payments, especially when purchasing vehicles, contracting home construction, and ordering online. They should keep purchase and service records. If treated unfairly, complaints can be filed via the OCPB hotline 1166 or the OCPB Connect application.
